i am having trouble installing fedora 3, i have the four iso images on 4 cds. I put the first one in the drive reboot and it starts up in win xp. I then do it again changing the bios to boot the dvd rom drive first. Still boots to win xp. I then disable the secondary boot option so it had no choice but to boot up the dvd drive but it just comes up with. -- inset media or reconfigure bios-- so im guessing theres something wring with the iso image. Its a single file and ive been doing some reading and i think im spose to have a series of executeble files, but my nero6 will only let me burn a single iso image. The fedora was included with a edition of Australian Computer Mag..
question is how do i change the single file to a series of exe files, if that is the problem, if not what is the problem.. i tried burning a second copy and still the same..

Choose a Different burning option in Nero
The images on your four CDs are not recognized by the system, hence your booting into Win XP. You have to burn each ISO image to another set of CDs. Open Nero and let the new cd creation wizard run. Or run the wizard when Nero is fully opened. It should be an icon on the toolbar at the top of the program. When asked what kind of compilation to make, select other, not data or audio. The next panel should give you a choice of burning .ISO images. That is the option you need in order to create bootable and installable cd's. So you are going to need four more cd's and re-burn. I really hope this helps. I had the same exact problem for about two days. Let me know and good luck.

damn man, the problem i had was i was running nero start smart, and not the official nero program, i have no idea why the cd creation wizard wont run, i cant even find a option to run it manually, i located a option under data, to burn a bootable disk, im guessing this is the right option.
ok i burned the first iso image. rebooted and its loading into a dos command promt..? Caldera DR-DOS 7.03 DR-DOS] A:\> what the heck?? rebooting.. gunna see what other options i got in nero,

It should be, compile a new cd, other cd formats then create a cd from an image file. I don't know what version of Nero you are using, but what happens if you click on help? Do you have an option in the menu to click on "use the nero wizard?" And no, I don't live in Australia. USA California on PST time. I will check back later when I am at work. On my way now...........................

i am using nero 6, came free with the dvd burner. clicking on help just gives me the online help (i dont have net acces on this comp yet) and faq, which i cant find anything useful in that. When i click on the nero tab it just gives me the product versions and serial numbers. I dont know if i change the "which recorder would you like to use" option from pioneer dvd r/w to image recorder cd r/w ... I will try and see if it works... Here is a screen shot of the start smart nero and the nero program where u can burn a bootable disk ![]() Im stumped and dont know what else to try if the create image doesnt work...

I am wondering if the copy of the image you got out of that mag was good. Interesting. Do you have any friends that may have a different type of burning software? It sounds like Nero is not getting the job done and you will be making a trip to the media store before you get it right for some new cd's.

I got mine from here. Before I burned the copys as an image, I was pulling my hair out because I just copied them from the hard drive to cd. Then I saw my mistake and burned them as Images to cd. I don't know what else to tell you dude. I am sorry.

If you got time to wait for what, a couple of days or so, however long it takes to get to you, I could mail you a copy of mine dude. At least to get you going. Send me an email with your information and let me know, if you want and I will send it the first thing tomorrow in the afternoon when I get out of class.

I am glad you were able to get your images burned. I just have the regular Nero 6. Good luck with Fedora.

Oh yeah....this is where it really gets good. You are going to need a third party partition manager. I used Partition Magic 8. That is the only way you are going to split that drive, unless............................................ .............................
You completely wipe that drive and install Fedora all by itself. If you are a newbie, which I am, I recommend against it. But other souls have been a lot braver and succeeded. P.S. Is Farcry that good? P.S.S. And whatever you do, BACK UP YOUR DATA!!!!!!!

You can try ranish it is free. Ranish also has a boot manager. I also believe fedora Core 3 has a built in partition software but I will need to check. I am at work at the moment. I don't believe partition magic is that expensive though. found it on pricewatch.com for $29 http://www.pcbase.com/cgi-bin/main.p...&dc=pricewatch
Hope this helps http://www.ranish.com/part/ http://www.ranish.com/ http://www.ranish.com/part/dualboot.pdf |

i checked out those sites, seems you need a A: drive for that program...
i managed to get partition magic from a p2p but i ran into a new problem. Should i create a boot drive in win xp or in fedora core. Im pretty sure all i have to do is partition my drive into 2, then fedora will do the rest am i right..?

Yes all you need to do is make room on the drive and it will install the grub boot loader and it will reconize both the linux and winxp partitions and allow you to boot from either.
My suggestion is to make the linux partition fat32 because linux does not play well with ntfs and windows does not reconize the linux partition. For with my experiance at which i am still very new at it. I really wanted to transfer files between the two os's and could not because linux does not write to ntfs unless you use experimental drivers which can cause write errors. Which is bad bad bad
