"Failed to load detection driver" installation error

I'm creating a thread about this problem rather than risking it being overlooked in the thread with a misleading titled, where the people who've posted might think that the problem has already been addressed.

During installation of the modified driver, the installer "failed to load detection driver", and this happens. It practically freezes up after that.

Guess I wasn't homefree.

The problem might be caused by my laptop (Thinkpad T500) having switchable graphics with one being the ATI card and another an Intel something-something. Though the ATI was the one switched on during installation - obviously.

Try this:

Download the Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package (x86) from here (or the x64 version from here).

Install either of the above.

Then install the latest ATI drivers from here.

The "failed to load detection driver" Error Message should be gone.

Superb post. I had the identical problem and your solution worked 98%. However, there is a service pack (SP1) to the Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable that has to be applied for the last bits of the ATI graphic card drivers to work right. Here's the link again for all, including the SP1:

This solution did nothing, I still get the failed to load detection driver error
