Canon20d is on a distinguished road

egads!

so after just hibernating my system for about 2 months i decided to update my drivers
(read as: plugged in USB laptop drive and i get power surge on USB and it shuts down the computer
So since i had already uninstalled the drivers in prep for next time i cleaned them with DCP
but i got a weird error, something about accesing read or write protected data and a sign of memory corruptoin
Yea yea
so i clean and reboot cause well explorer froze and then task manager froze
Ugh
so now i get the INF errror trying to install the drivers, so i manually install the driver, hoping CCC will accept that and move on
NO!
now i have some weird version drivers running it so at least i can use my laptop but
A: still get the INF error, which i dont get since it Has drivers..
and
B: this protected memory access that means possible corruption of..ram?

Info guys, save me, it ran fine for 2 months now this cr4P

System Specs

If your unit came with manufacturer's diagnostics on boot floppies or a CD I would run them first and see if any hardware got bit by the surge you experienced. If no diagnostics, you could get the Ultimate Boot CD (see a sticky in the Hardware Discussion forum) and at least check your hard drive and memory. If no problem, a clean install of Windows would be in order next (I know, ouch...).

Sorry to hear of your problem happening this way...

System Specs

Hello:

What kind of INF problem. Are you having trouble installing the display drivers? Some modded drivers need to be installed manually through the device manager.
i.e. under display adapters, right click your Graphics chip, and click update drivers. Choose the advanced install. On the next screen choose the "don't search, i will choose driver to install" ---> next screen click have disk, and browse for the INF file of the driver or modded driver. If it is an ATI driver or modded driver, the INF is usually under the Driver\2kxp\ folder of a normal catalyst package in the c:\ati\support directory when its is unpacked.

Good luck, and take care
