Sad ATI X1600 mobility/ACER travelmate 8200 - desperately need help!!!

PLEASE HELP!!! ANYONE!!!

Hi people, i am pulling my hair out trying to solve a problem i have with a Brand new ACER travelmate 8200 laptop and am having problems with the video card. I am a newbie to windows having made the leap from Mac with the purchase of this machine. I am a video editor and use the machine daily...so here it is.

Installed the various apps that i need, one of which is Adobe premier pro 2, Audition, CS suite ETC.
Tried to run PP2, started up ok, worked for a minute then crashed the machine. Upon restarting, the automatic windows error reply stated that i must update video card drivers to the latest version and/or limt the hardware acceleration. Tried to update catalyst (ver6.14 installed) to 6.3 but received a "inf error video driver not found" error and could not complete the install.

I've been thru this senario with various error messages that center around driver conflicts and this "update video card drivers" message from the micropsft windows automated reply.

I have been looking about the net and have seen i am not the only one with this problem with this particular notebook.

Now i have really stuffed things up by removing the catalyst program from the machine and now cannot reinstall it.

I need help could someone please lead me thru the manual install and set up of the catalyst version 6.3.

Pathetic i know but any help is much appreciated

for one you need to uninstall the old drivers, then install
http://www.ati.com/online/mobilecatalyst/
also make suer you have all your windowsupdates and I'm not
sure if they have ccc for mobility set yet you may need .net 1.1

My Acer TravelMate 8200 came with the Mobility x1600 and was shipped with a Radeon Mobility driver centered around the 6.1 revision and does include CCC. I downloaded the Mobility drivers from ATI as you suggest and they will not install. I have tried to use the Omega drivers but with some unstable results although I'm not sure I should be using those with the Mobility x1600 or not.

hello coconutty

the solution to your problem lies with the sound card
I have the ACER 5672WLMI and I was trying the trial version out due to a couple of people on other forums having issues on both 5672 and 8204 machines

Both machines use Realtek High Definition audio
updating the drivers for this has fixed the problem for many users

some users have had to update their bios to the latest version on the 8200's but generally its just a problem with the audio driver

here is a link to realtek for the latest download around 23meg
http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...Audio%20CODECs

good luck sorting out your problem, If only I could afford Adobe Premiere 2.0 what a wicked piece of software

Hey EyeQ thanks for that! I guess I am only slightly surprised that the Acer US download site doesn't have these. Oh well...
