ati mobility x700 acer aspire 1694 WLMi question

i recently moved from old acer drivers to newer ati catalyst 6.4.
done this with mobity modder with no problem at all but..
when i played pro evolution soccer 5 i had the "screen tearin issue"
so i tried to force vsync enabled in the ati CCC but that didn't change anything!
so my question is... is there a way to test if the 3D parameters that i change in the ati CCC affect anything on the GFX card?
everything else works great... i can now enjoy watching dvd with any player... with previous driver i had only black screen...
oh.. i can say the card is working hard since the fan is reallllly going at high speed during pro evo 5!
