Laptop turns off by itself??? Help!
I have a Toshiba Satellite M30x notebook, Intel Centrino Dothan 1.60 GHhz, 512 RAM, 2 MB cache, Ati Mobility Radeon 9700 (128 MB) with the latest Catalyst 6.5 and Omega drivers ( thanks to Patje ). But I have a huge problem... When I play some demanding games ( like Dreamfall the longest journey ),after some time playing - my notebook suddenly turns itself off
without the shutting down procedure. Literally like someone plugged it off,and there was no battery. So I have to wait for a couple of minutes before it allows me to turn it on again?!!!Can anybody help? Is it an overheating issue with my graphic card or processor or maybe a dirty cooler? Any suggestions?

Overheating, that`s my guess too. But what is overheated? The graphic card or the processor? And another thing... Is there a program that can monitor the heat of my card and processor? All similar programs that I ran to did not have support for my laptop. I don`t know why, probably because they were made for desktop configurations. Does anybody know of a program that can monitor these on a laptop? I already have Notebook Monitor Control, but it shows only the heat of the hard disc. And is there a program that an monitor the cooler usage? What do you think about external coolers ( usb ones ) for notebooks? Thank you and greetings from Serbia!!!

I used a program called Mobile Meter on my girlfriends notebook. It shows all the temperatures.
I would also suggest undervolting your cpu. A good program is Rightmark CPU Clock utility. I managed to undervolt her Thurion from original 1.400V to 1.125V, her laptop runs stable at that voltage, alas alot cooler. Her fan starts only when she is playing intensive games. You should try it too. Greetings from Slovenia, Partizan

Same problem with HP dv4384 with X700, I also tried Dreamfall ,,, i think the shutdown issue on Dreamfall is not heat related because it's shutdown after 3-4 minutes.I can play more demanding games like SC:CT with no shutdown.I think problem may be CPU heat issue or a conflict between game and GPU.Because shutdown is happened with variable time intervals even with the same game....But indeed i couldn't find actual problem.

My computer was shutting down even when playing gumes like Big Hunter 2006. Godfather, too. I still believe it is an overheat issue, that is why i will try to clean my cooler from dirt, put some thermal paste and finally buy an external cooler
like Master Cooler Notepal for notebooks. It is an excellent thing and not too expensive. Around 40 euros in Serbia. If the laptop continues shutting down by itself, then it probably has to do something with BIOS or it is a hardware problem. I really can`t think of anything else. If someone had a better suggestion,he should post it. Greetins from Serbia to everyone |

ya i have the same problem too, i have a toshiba m70 fe5 model, and recently its been shutting off too. I have been playing games like Hitman Blood money and The movies, and hitman shuts off in 15 mins and the movies in one 1hr or so. For a strange reason, flight simulator 2004 does not shut off. I installed ghost recon advanced warfighter like in april and no problems wit it. So i guess its a heating issue. Any info on any notebook coolers that i can use that get powered via usb and also software to monitor temperature of GPU and CPU?

As far as I managed to gather information regarding notebook coolers, the Notepal from Cooler Master is just the appropriate one. It is good looking, comes in silver and black colour, and with 2 or 3 fans, connects to laptop via usb, of course.I am definately sure that it`s a heat problem now and I believe that adding same cool air to the process will fix the issue. There is probably some kind of information stored in bios that automatically turns off cpu so that some of the hardware components don`t get damaged due to overheat. Perhaps it is a helpful thing to do,although annoying. It just warns that the laptop is about to get some extra cooling

hey my laptop does this, i originally thought it was a problem with the cable and the wall socket and that it might run well on the battery, i dont get this.
I have a Gericom 3.06ghz pentium 4 processor and 512mb of RAM, ive only had it for like 4months and i play a game online called "americas army" this takes up approx 250mb of ram a big game yes, i never used to have this problem, i could play americas army anytime i wanted without turning off or anything and now all of a sudden i go to play it and the laptop turns off off, the same with a chat website i go on called "lycos chat" now you may think an internet chat? why does that shut down? well when you run it the chat takes up 50mb of ram and yes you have guessed it even that shuts the computer down, i went on the chat today with only the battery in(not the cable) and it worked fine no problems and im on it now wioth the cable plugged in. If i went to play americas army now it would turn my laptop off, i can polay other games perfectly ok its just internet games like that, it did it with some games within half life 2 aswell(the ones which i tried out). I like 1st person shooters but if thats all what happens then whats the point in me having them, ive tried to reinstall the software and nothing happens i get same problem. I thought it might of been something to do with an error or a virus or something but other day i reformatted my hard drive and reinstalled windows and still happens. Both fans are working because i can feel air coming out, the laptop is very hot and now when i go to run something that takes up abit of memory the fans just kick in straight away even on little tasks(e.g over 10-20mb of ram needed to perform) The fans never used to do this like kick in so much only once needed. I have downloaded the following software and here are my results from a few tests: Mobile Meter: Frequency 3.10ghz, temperature 75 degrees C, change rate 0.00w,HDD#0 55 degrees C rightmark cpu clock utility: cpu core clock and throttle:1600, CPU load and OS load: 8% cpu frequency id and voltage id(fid and vid): 23.0 |
