W3J with Omega Driver 3.8.252 Crashing
I just got my W3J yesterday. I installed the Omega Driver version 3.8.252 on it, and when I play World of Warcraft, it crashes and restarts my computer. When it reboots, it says the X1600 had a problem with processing something. Anyone know what's wrong? Or should I look for another driver.
I've also tried the older versions of omega driver, and even the default driver the laptop comes with |

The first thing you'll want to try is downloading a program called driver cleaner pro, which you can find through this site.
Then: 1) Install driver cleaner pro. 2) Uninstall your ATi driver, let the system reset. 3) Run driver cleaner pro and set it to clean ATi and ATi CCC. 4) Reset your system one more time, and reinstall whichever driver set you prefer. (I'd go with the latest Omega drivers, personally.) If this doesn't solve your problem, try installing the drivers from the manufacturer again and then getting the notebook drivers off of ATi' website. The auto-detect program that ATi uses to "determine" if your graphics chip is compatible with their mobile driver can be found here: https://support.ati.com/ics/support/...e&folderID=293 It will be under "Notebooks with ATi Graphics." If this doesn't download, then I dunno from that point. Hopefully, my first suggestion will work out and your WoWing can continue unimpeded.

if none of these work...does it mean my laptop is defective?

Chances are that it is a conflict between Blizzard and ATi that they need to work out, but there is always that chance that this one is a dud.
I seriously doubt that chance, however. One of these will probably fix it.

here's the thing...i've tried older versions of omega, and even the default ATI drivers on the CD it comes with...it all causes WoW to crash...is my unit defective? i think this because i had a z70va with z x700 in it and it ran WoW on 1680 x 1050 almost maxed out and never once crashed...yet my w3j can't handle maxed out at a lower resolution. i get a blue screen before it restart
i used the driver cleaner too, same deal. |

Yeah, looks and feels like a hardware issue now. Seems like an RMA is in order. I'd wait until people are actually awake, though to see if anyone else has any ideas.

ya...i brought it back to the dealer...they said it sounds like it's overheating which is causing it to shutdown, which would mean they would replace it with a new one
![]() hopefully so... the only time it crashes like that is when i stress out the comp with max res and details. even then, it shouldn't crash just because it can't handle it maxed out. really hoping i get a new one...at the moment i'm liking my old z70va over the w3j as sad as that sounds. |
