Video Replacement for Inspiron 8200
I own a Dell Inspiron 8200 that I am pretty certain is having graphic card issues... The specific OEM card is the 64MB ATI Radeon Mobility 9000. The market for these cards, new or used, is VERY tight. Can somebody recommend a replacement card that will still work with my 8200? Thanks! Gill

I don't have a Inspiron 8200, but I found a card specific to my Compaq x1000 on Ebay. It originally supported a 7500 32mb, 9000 32mb, 9000 64mb, if you can find what your laptop supported originally and then find the part numbers you can find pulls on Ebay probably. Just wait till there is a decent deal on one.

I own an I8200 as well. I bought it with the GeForce 4 440 Go 64mb card. I recently upgraded to the M9000. I found 4 of them on eBay and bought it for around $210. And very easy to swap out too. There are other cards that will work with the I8200. Here is a list (each item is preceded by it's part number(s) for easier locating vie internet):
4D597: nVIDIA GeForce2 Go 32MB 5J149: nVIDIA GeForce 4 440 GO 64MB -- NOTE: Will not work with Hitachi SXGA+ 15" screens (although the 14" screens have been OK for some people) 6X935: nVIDIA Quadro4 700 Go GL 64MB -- NOTE: This card is essentially a 4200 Go - This is the fastest card available for the I8200. 4U284, 5U427 and 5X659: ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 M9 64MB -- NOTE: Will not work with Hitachi SXGA+ 15" screens (although the 14" screens have been OK for some people) and will not work with some IBM SXGA+ screens. This is the second fastest card for the I8200. I think there are a few VERY low end cards that will fit too, but I don't have information on that. And I think the M7500 will fit too, not positive on that note either. There are also variations in VRAM etc.. and a few different part numbers, but these will be your best bet. And all have a max VRAM of 64MB I am currently saving up to buy the 6X935 (Quadro4) as it is by far the best card compatible with this laptop... But they are EXTREMELY difficult to get your hands on. I have only ever seen 2 for sale, one on eBay and the other I would have had to get shipped in from Europe. Plus they will run you around $300-500 usually. Best of luck! -- Jaden -- [EDIT] I just scanned over eBay to see if there were any M9000's for sale and there is one for ~$180. And there are also M7500's for sale as well (don't know why you'd want one, but whatever) for like $55-65. Go get you some :P Last edited by Jaden; Aug 8, 2006 at 09:46 AM. |
