Is the X1400 still good?
I'm trying to decide between the Inspirons E1505 and E1705 and I liked the E1705 because it had a few more options graphics-wise, but I didn't want to pay so much for a larger display. So I managed to trick out the E1505 with a lot of nice options and a 256 MB Mobility Radeon X1400. But the E1705 had the option of getting a 256 NVIDIA GeForce Go 7900 GS. From what I've read and seen, it's clearly better, and at only $130 it's quite a bargain. So my question is, should I spring for the NVIDIA card? Because if Dell offers the option for future graphics upgrades then I'd rather wait till I'm in a better financial situation and put in an MR X1800 in the laptop later. Does anyone know if Dell does that? And is the X1400 good enough for games right now (FEAR, Elder Scrolls IV, etc.)?

The X1400 will barely get you by for low res gaming (<= 1024x768 - medium/normal settings) for the latest games. The 7900GS blows the X1400 away - and a bargain for the price difference (160.00 US today as I saw it...).

The 7900 will be a much better card and last longer. x1400 isn't out of date, but it's falling behind now. It will play most current games well, but well for now is bad for 2 years from now. Plus more memory anda faster GPU will put it nearly on par with most upper-midrange/low-highend desktop cards.
