Overclocking Trouble with mr x1600???

I got the HP nx9420. 1 gb ddr2, t2400 1.83 duo, mr x1600 256mb dedicated, ultra brite monitor up to 1680x1050 res

As you know HP
stuff is weird. I can't install ATI Catalyst drivers since they aren't compatible. Well first I downloaded ATITools and the default overclock was 425.25 / 378 (core / mem). Whenever I went to test for Max for either one the screen went black and I had to power off and back on.

So I downloaded the Omega Catalyst 6.5 drivers and tried ATITools with that and same thing happened. I uninstalled ATITools and tried ATI Tray Tools. Now the default overlock is still 425.25 / 378. Whenever I click on "Bench!" it gives me an OpenGL unsupported textures message with a GLSL (is that it?) unsupported error message. I can manually increase the Core up to 578 with the slider on the overclock settings but I cannot increase the Mem past 378.

Anyone know what I can do to get my overclock working? Are there BIOS updates for the nx9420 or is HP
just hopeless for overclocking? I didn't format everything because I didn't want to have to find all the drivers again. Is formatting my only option to get rid of all these errors?

Oh yea, I'm using XP Pro, I have .NET 1.1 and 2.0 installed, SP2. Everything is updated to the best of my knowledge. Anything I might be missing why I can't do a "Max bench" test for overclock and why I can't raise my mem settings passed 378 or my core passed 57x (not that i want to, just wondering why)? I'd want to get my settings up to at least 450/450 when I play games. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Oh yea, other weird thing is in my display settings it has it set up as multiple monitors...dunno why...

Hello:

The newest BIOS for your notebook is F.12.
You can get it ("HPQFlash for HP Notebook System BIOS (68YAF) - Windows-Based") and other driver updates from HP directly from here:
http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/fi...e/64_6253.html

With regards to overclocking, some notebook computers will note permit much tampering with internal clock speeds because the notebook chassis is designed to handle only so much heat dissipation. It is possible a Clock-speed governor has enable to prevent the x1600 from overclocking.

You may be able to download and install the actuall ATi Mobility Catalyst drivers from here:
http://www.station-drivers.com/page/...20mobility.htm
That way you won't have to worry about the ATi Tool to check if your notebook is made by a "participating" vendor.

Good luck, and take care.

never.

ever.

ever.

overclock notebook components, in my opinion, unless you have the sudden urge to be the proud owner of the damned shiniest and snazziest paperweight you've ever seen.

for the multiple monitors issue, i've noticed a lot of notebooks nowadays having a key (usually Fn + an F-key) that toggles display modes, for presentations , etc... and it doesn't play well with trying to change those settings in windows. it's worth a look.
