mobility 9700 serious problem

Hello guys,
wanna congratulate you at first for this nice looking site and forum.
But here we go,

I bought a second handed acer travelmate 8000 yesterday and everything is working fine except that it freezes from time to time? One major problem is that it always freezes when i am trying to play a video file. I have the latest omega drivers installed btw..

thx already

System Specs

Hello, and Welcome to DriverHeaven.net

Does the system periodically freeze using the Acer OEM drivers from their website?
If it does, it is likely your system is suffering from over-heating. Try cleaning the vents, and make sure the fan is working properly.

You could also try installing ATI Catalyst Mobility drivers, they may work better with your system than Omega Drivers. You may still need to mod the drivers however, but you can download some of them from here:

Assuming it isn't Driver / Graphics chip related, make sure you have:
1) Proper Power management settings and CPU driver for your model
2) Defragmented Harddrive
3) Correct and updated Codec packages installed for the video type in question.
4) DMA support is enabled for both harddrive and CD/DVD drive.

Good luck, and take care.

Hey there, try downloading this media player: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

If that runs those movie files fine, then it's either your movie player, or codec problems. Vlc player utilises it's own codecs and generally plays most formats thrown at it.

If it doesn't play your movie files correctly, then it's either the files themselves or could be a hardware problem.
