Question about Omega drivers and laptop graphic cards

Sorry for the probably newb question but are Omega drivers really safe for laptop graphic cards??

I have a Toshiba laptop with a an ATI Mobility X1600 and I'm asking this because the other day I read in the Toshiba support forums that one of the reasons that one should stick with the manufacturer's drivers is because these ones implement temperature control in the drivers (since the laptop graphic cards dont have the same cooling system as the desktop ones) and that the Omega ones did not.

So it seems that simply using Omega's drivers (even with the defaults and no overclocking involved) can eventually overheat the laptop's card. Is this correct or am I missing something here?

Any thoughts ?

I would also like to know about this because I have recently realized how hot my GPU has been running while idling (~85C) as well as when gaming (+100C!)! I think I'm going to install the regular catalyst drivers for a few days and see if that reduces my GPU's temperature output.

By the way, I have an Asus z70VA (2.0 Ghz Pentium M, 1GB RAM, 100GB HD, etc.) with the ATI x700 mobility card (128mb). I've also undervolted my system with Notebook Hardware Control and implemented manual fan control via Speedfan. On the whole, the combination of these two programs has significantly reduced heating and fan noise with this notebook, aside from the GPU, that is.

Hmmm, well hopefully someone more knowledgable than I will shed some light on this matter...

I ahd a similar experience before i learned that i could control my fan speed.From the factory Dell sets its PC's to "run clean and silent" thus effectivly keeping your fan speeds low and your temps high. try some Arctic silver5 its a cheap solution to make the GPU transfer heat more effectivly to the heatsink.

been using omegas on all my laptops and never had a temperature problem... but then again i dont game for hours on end, prob only max 1-1.5 hrs at a time.

right now im using on my toshiba a X1400 256mb mobility and latest 6.7 omegas and they are beautiful
