ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 Help!

Hi, I've been having a problem with my laptop and was hoping someone could help.

Specs:

- Dell Insprion 600m
- XP Home, SP2
- ATI Mobility Radeon 9000, Driver Version 8.20.0, File Version 6.14.10.0303 (Listed in Device Manager), BUT "driver version" is 6.14.10.6587 under System Information
- Resolution: 1024 x 768, 32 bit
- 1.40 GHz Intel Celeron M
- 1.00 GB RAM

For the past month, almost every time (but not all) I shut my monitor lid for more than 10 min and then attempt to reopen it, the screen remains black; however, I can hear the brief Windows startup music to the login screen and can see the green light indicating the computer is active. To ultimately remedy this problem, I must restart the computer or hit the small pin at the top of the computer to "wake up" the screen. I have toggled with the power options to no avail. My current settings are:

When I close the lid: Do Nothing
When I press the power button: Shutdown
When I press the sleep button: Do Nothing

Screensaver: After 10min
Turn Off Monitor: After 15min
Turn of Hard Disks: Never
System Standby: After 20min
System Hibernates: After 45min

In addition to trying things with the power options, Dell sent a technician to replace my LCD screen and gave me a new control display cover (blue strip at the top: has the small pin - connecting to reed switch). I thought this hardware change would resolve the issue, but after running a test tonight with the monitor lid shut for 30min and then reopening it, it proved that this issue is far from over. The blank screen returned, but the computer was still active.

I believe I have the most recent ATI Driver that Dell has listed for my specific system. Does anyone else have any other suggestions? I am dying for help, and growing weary of Dell's atrocious service.

Thanks!!!

System Specs

If your problems started at the same time you updated the video drivers, you may need to update the bios and chipset drivers for your particular laptop from the Dell site as well - those kind of updates often solve wakeup from sleep and hibernation type issues...

I believe my problems started before the update, and that is why I updated the video drivers. But I could always try to update the bios and chipset drivers to see if that solves it. I know where to find bios version, but where can I find what chipset driver version I have?

Thanks again!
