Large everything with 9700 card forced to have 9500 drivers

ok, so the other day I was playing a game, and it crashed windows and then wouldn't start xp, so I got knoppix, saved all my files onto another computer and used my recovery cds. It started up and said I didn't have a display driver. The ones provided on the driver disk that came with my computer didn't work, something about not having the right requirements.

I have an msi 510c (some singapore crap), 64mb ati mobil rad 9700. So I went to ati.com installed catalyst and all of a sudden it says I have a 9500 card instead (this was automatically chosen by catalyst). I wasn't too picky about that, even though i know it's wrong, the problem is that all the icons on the start bar are bigger than they should be and are pixelated cause they've been enlarged. I thought it was the driver so I wiped ati, and got omega...success...only temporarily (still says i have a 9500 card).

The icons shrunk to a normal size of all windows xp computers that exist in the modern world until I restarted and they went back to being fat. When I bought my computer a year ago I remember doing somethingn like Display properties>"settings" tab> "Advanced" button> "displays" tab> then clicking on panel and it said something about making images bigger on laptop screens to improve visability, but for somereason it doesn't exist now. see the picture...

I'm going to take a stab in the dark and say that if the 9700 driver had of been installed instead of the 9500 driver I'd have this option, so my overall question is how do I get 9700 drivers installed on this instead of the 9500 drivers that currently inhabit this peice of machinery?

Oh, if you also know how I can change it with just a few clicks of the mouse, that'd be greatly appreciated too.

ANY information would be helpful, I had no idea where else to go with this problem either.
