Mobility 9700 troubles.

Hello there, I'm new to DH and I've got a question.
My friend gave me an ASUS Z1800Ka Laptop with an AMD Athlon 64 3400 and an ATI Mobility Radeon 9700. He gave it to me because the HDD broke, but that's a whole different story.
So, my delima is as fallows: When I play games, they get VERY glitchy. I have installed the latest UniAN Catalyst and I had the ATI Tray Tools installed but that messed up my sleep mode royally, so I installed the ATI Tool.
The closest Iv'e come to solving this problem, is underclocking the GPU and memory. But the thing is, 1: I don't know anything about over/underclocking, so I don't know where to clock them and 2: I don't really want to underclock them too much or the frame rate on all my games will suck so bad it won't even be worth playing.
So... do whatever you guys do to help me "set vous ples".
