9600 and WOW crashing

Have a radeon mobility 9600 card and I'm trying to play WOW. It was locking up then refreshing after a few seconds or locking up so I'd have to unplug the laptop. Tried the WOW fixes of deleting folders and running the repair.exe. Didn't work.

Downloaded the catalyst drivers from ATI and the modding program here. Got into WOW but locked up more frequently. ATI error message said "VPU not responding to graphic accelerator".

Went into catalyst and nothing in the 3d section will preview with the opengl driver I have installed. I'm sure it hasn't been updated since 2003 when the laptop was made.

So I think I need a newer opengl driver. Problem is that I can't seem to find it anywhere. Where can I download this? Also, do you think that's the right thing to do?

System Specs

your problem definitely sounds deeper than just world of warcraft.

Are you able to run DirectX apps without problem?
personally, I'd attempt to completely reinstall the video card and drivers . Grab DH's driver cleaner utility, uninstall your video card, install the latest and greatest Omega Drivers.
