System Specs

Default Post Modding 98/98SE and ME Catalyst 6.2 drivers

Hello, and welcome to DriverHeaven.net

Download the Catalyst driver from ATI.com for Windows 98/ME

Run the Installer, and cancel the installation at the first error or first menu you encounter.

The installer will have unpacked its driver files in C:\ati\SUPPORT\6-2_wme_dd_cp_30314\Driver

Open notepad, and open the file C:\ati\SUPPORT\6-2_wme_dd_cp_30314\Driver\9X_INF\C5_30314.inf

Under the [Mfg] header, enter the following entry:
"Mobility RADEON X300 Series" = RV370_ENU, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_5460

Save changes.

Go to Device Manager
Right click on the Display adapter, click Update driver
Use the "Don't Search" option, and click the "Have Disk" button on following screens
Use the location path:
C:\ati\SUPPORT\6-2_wme_dd_cp_30314\Driver\9X_INF\C5_30314.inf
click OK, and select the "Mobility Radeon X300 series from the list.

The drivers will install, and may or may not give a warning about "unsigned driver", click "Continue anyway" if such a window appears.

Restart your computer. and the display drivers should work, and give you upto 24 to 32 bit colour.

I am not sure if the device codes i have posted are the same as your notebook model. This driver modification may or may not work. If they do not, you will need to change the XXXX in the INF line that you added:
"Mobility RADEON X300 Series" = RV370_ENU, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_XXXX
to match your device code.

Good luck, and take care.
