New ATI Omega Drivers stretching WMP videos

I have been using Omegadrivers for my widescreen laptop since I got it two years ago. I watch a lot of videos in WMP and never had a problem.

Two days ago I updated my Omegadrivers to 3.8.291. Before that I hadn't updated in a while (working with 2.x.xxx) but since updating drivers any video I watch in Windows Media Player (classic or 10) is ditorted. It fits horizontally but vertically its squished so there is about 1/3 of extra space on the bottom. It does this in fullscreen and windowed. The only time is doesn't do this is when I switch resolution to 1600x1200 (I usually run at 1280x800).

Is there something I need to change in the driver settings or something that can be fixed in WMP? I've looked at both and found no solution.

There was a video in that image but when I check it without WMP open it shows up blank. Very confusing.

The horizontal fits, but the vertical looks like its compressed to fit a smaller resolution when there is clearly space for it to fit on the bottom. I noticed when I go into 1600x1200 mode it works normally. I haven't tried any other resolutions tho.

It's normal when I make it 1680x1050, not 1600x1200*

I figure it has something to do with my widescreen monitor but I just dont know where the settings are to mess with it. Been looking but cant find them. Please help. I watch movies and shows on my laptop everyday and its really obnoxious to have them stretched.

Open up the CP for Omega and look under the Displays tab. You may have it set at Stretch Image to Fit or something similar. Use Stretch Image - Maintain Aspect Ratio or even Centered Timing. If that's not it, I'm not sure.

(Radeon Mobility 9700 on DELL INSPIRON 9100; 3.8.291 Omega driver installed; Video playback problems with aspect ratio and black stripe at THE BOTTOM)

I have exactly the same problem and also, as you pointed out only, only if I make max. resolution of 1680x1050 it looks normal (not horizontally squeezed wit 1/3 of black space at the bottom). Otherwise it is frustrating!

Desperately need help too. I started to think to roll back to older driver if no solution is found soon. It has most probably something to do with aspect ratios and inability of new drivers to correctly identify primary display and its properties.

If you deselect in: Display properties -> Settings -> Advanced -> Displays -> select active display Panel -> “Scale Image <not selected>” than video playback is working without any distortion. Selecting “Scale image” (regardless to selecting also “Expand to full panel size” or “Expand while maintaining aspect ratio”) distort video playback.

And also BTW: If you try to set in ATI Tray Tools (ATT) -> Display -> Settings -> (Display 1) Options -> (Adjustments) “Scale Image to panel size”, it does not stay selected.

Still need help!!

I'm getting the same problem. I have a Dell Inspiron 9100 with ATI Mobility Radeon 9800. I'm using the latest Omega drivers (as Dell have not provided new drivers since August 2004 and Catalyst won't install on my laptop).

Removing Scale Image fixes the problem but then I can only use one resolution without gigantic black borders around everything.

Can someone please try and help fix this? Omega drivers finally got my laptop working with games again but I still watch a lot of videos and DVDs on my laptop.

EDIT: Thought I better add, I have to set my resolution to the max available, 1920 x 1200, in order to fix the problems...

Someone please help!
