Mobility 9000 -- screen flicker
Earlier this week, out of the blue, my laptop screen started flickering around the edges and then jumping around.
Laptop: Toshiba Tecra S1 with ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 Driver: Omega 3.8.205 I hooked it up to an external monitor and there is no flickering. Strangely, when I have the display on BOTH external and laptop LCD at the same time, there is NO flickering on either one. If I switch back to *only* the LCD, screen resumes jumping around all over the place. In LCD only mode, restarting doesn't help -- LCD even flickers through the windows startup. BUT, if I shut the laptop down for a while and then restart, LCD won't start jumping around again for about a half hour after restart. Checked for viruses -- nothing found; virus definitions are up to date. I'm going to uninstall the driver and upgrade to the Omega 3.8.252. I'd hate to go back to the old ATI driver because it doesn't let me play Civ IV. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm really not well versed in hardware / graphics issues. Many thanks, Yasmin |

Maybe overheating? Try re-install of current driver?

tried reinstalling driver
Unfortunately, reinstalling the driver did not help. It looks like a hardware issue. Getting it serviced though may be more expensive than the laptop is worth...
