Mobility 9200 and my HW191D Widescreen

Dear all,

I've been trying out all kinds of methods to solve this issue, but to no avail. However I have every reason to believe this problem is solvable.

To begin with: I've just received my new monitor, a Hanns.G product Model number HW191D 19" Widescreen monitor, with native resolution of 1440x900. I am still within the 7 day return guarantee but I'd prefer not to. My laptop is of the Compaq Presario series, model number X1047AP, and my video card is the Mobility Radeon 9200.

Problem is: My graphics driver does not support 1440x900 resolution, but I suspect it's because it's really outdated, and obtaining the vendor-specific Radeon driver is useless because the last updated version was from since 2004.

Using the Mod tool, I've managed to get my external monitor working at its native resolution (hence I know for sure it can be done), unfortunately it won't recognize my laptop's monitor, causing wavey like motions on to the screen.

What I want is a modified 9200 mobility driver that will allow both 1440x900 and 1680x1050 for the external monitor and the primary monitor respectively. I've tried modifying the .nfo files for test and trials but... I can't seem to get the best of both worlds.

I hope any one of you can help me, it will be really appreciated! Especially with my limited time... It's either going back to Amazon, or hopefully, fingers crossed, stay with me.

Regards,
Christopher Tock

dear all,

I've tried modifying nfo files of my specific-manufactured ATI Mobility Radeon 9200 to follow with Omega driver's settings, and the result is my laptop screen showing good resolution at 1680x1050 and my external monitor showing a whole range of resolution EXCEPT 1440x900. Included below is the list:

800x600
960x720
1024x768
1152x864
1200x900
1280x768
1280x1024
1360x1020
1400x1050
1520x1140
.. and other higher resolutions.

Note the missing 1440x900. I was using Omega 3.8.252
(another reason why I can't just use Omega drivers is that it only recognizes a monitor and a TV. can it not know that it's being installed on a laptop?)

Manyn thanks!
Regards
Christopher

Cool! Solved!

FINALLY!!!

Many thanks to the softwares I've downloaded from this site!

What I did was to install the latest set of Omega drivers, then Modded Catalyst 6.12 for Mobilty and fused the original driver's set of files to the Modded Catalyst, while merging some important elements of the driver file (*.inf) from the Omega set to the OEM's, so that it will recognize my 1680x1050 panel and YET have 1440x900 res for my external monitor!

Man it feels sooooo great that I'm gonna spend myself a 20 quid sushi dinner

If anyone needs help, pls don't hesitate to contact me. I don't think I'll be checking up on this forums anymore but you may find me at my blog @ http://www.spinzer.us/blog/

Thanks Driverheaven.net, although no one answered me I did, after all, learn everything here on this forums

-A not so impressive pic but I was just too elated
