Hey everyone, I'm new to the forums - so go easy on me.

I'm recently upgrade my dell Inspiron 5100 with the Mobility Radeon 7500 (m7) from the 32mb card to the 64mb card. I uninstalled all the ATI and Catalyst drivers so i could add the Omega drivers (3.8.252) and so far I've had no problems.

From everything I've read, the 7500 is only compatible with DirectX7 - but of course many of the games i'm interested in playing use a more recent version. e.g. FarCry, Deus Ex: Invisible War, Star Wars KOTOR.

This morning I downloaded directx again and was able to install 9.0c with no problems. I ran the directx diagnostic tool and got positive results for 7, 8 and 9. So my question is: are these results erroneous or is the updated Omega driver allowing me to utilize directx 9?

Just to clarify:


The Radeon 7500 is considered a DirectX7 card. It doesn't mean that it's not capable of running some DX8/9 applications. It just states that the extra features available in dx8 and 9 apps are not available.

One example is pixel Shaders. Although available in most games today, your card is incapable of using them. But most games have a fallback, if the your isn't capable of using them, it just simply doesn't do it, or replaces them with something your card is able to do.

All those games and apps needs is a card that is capatible though lacking the nessary features, of DirectX 9.0c. Which with the latest catalyst drivers, you are. And shouldn't run into any issues running games aside from experiencing very low performance in comparison to the latest technologies today.
