Mobility Radeon 7500 - Output to 22" Widescreen

Hi. I'm new at this.
I have a lap top (non widescreen), and just bought a 22" external monitor that is widescreen. When I output to it, it seems to be just stretched across the widescreen and looks pretty awful. Is there a way to change how it looks so it's not stretched, and looks normal, but so I can just see more as it is widescreen? I don't want to change the widescreen to look like a normal aspect ratio because that defeats the purpose of getting a widescreen monitor to begin with. Is my video card able to change the settings, do I need new drivers, or am I out of luck. I just hate looking at this new monitor and seeing everything look stretched outwards and pictures of me look fatter than I really am haha. Any help?

I tried changing the resolutions but it doesn't change the fact that the whole image is stretched....

I'm using Dell lattitude C640 and I have had same problem.
But I finally found a solution.

see

and install Omega driver 6.5 as' swimtech' says.

Omega driver supports the vary resolution you are looking for.

Thanks to swimtech ^^

Ps. The omega driver would ask you to bring ati'someting'.ini file.
But don't panic, just copy that file which is located in your original driver folder.

Hi everybody, first post here, same problem as you.

I have the Sony Vaio PCG-GRZ630 laptop with the same ATI Mobility Radeon 7500 graphics chip. I want to install an external WIDESCREEN monitor (24 inch) but this chip will not allow resolutions with the 16:9 aspect ratio. I read your message above and installed the Omega Driver "Catalyst 6.5, V3.8.252" as specified by swimtech. Then I rebooted and try to see if any new resolution choices showed up in the "Display Settings" and I only see the same resolutions as I had before. No option for WIDESCREEN resolutions.

Also, when I installed the Omega driver I was not asked to move any file named "*.ini" anywhere.

What am i doing wrong? Please help. Thank you.

Oops, it looks like when I go to the "Display Settings" there are two monitors listed. Monitor #1 has the same resolution settings I had before I installed the Omega driver (4:3 aspect ratios). However, Monitor #2 has a significantly more resolutions including a few 16:10 aspect ratios that should support Widescreen.

Since my Widescreen (24") has not yet arrived I can't plug it in to see how the new resolutions work.

I am assuming that Monitor #2 refers to the external monitor while Monitor #1 refers to the smaller (15") LCD screen that comes on the laptop.
