Started having problems with 9700
Hi guys,
Been having Acer Aspire 1672WLMi for 2 years already, so far it was working quite well. Using it for everything possibly imaginable, browsing, gaming, some graphics etc. However recently there have been some problems with its video adapter - ATI Mobility 9700 while playing games and unfortunately its on all of them, not a particular one. But as I am playing World of Warcraft at the moment, I will bring examples from it. The problem is that after some time the game is started the screen gets messed up completely, some strange lines appear, vertexes mess up etc. If I alt+tab from the game, it may fix it when I alt+tab back, but usually it messes up again n 5-10seconds. See for yourself: I have seen such things on computers with bad Video Adapter drivers, but in my case it was working for 2 years... The first thing I tried I reinstalled the driver, tried using different drivers, like latest Omega Drivers but result is the same. The interesting thing is that the first picture is the messed game, but the second one is messed windows screen, the problem is that sometimes those lines and vertexes are brought to Windows after alt tabbing during the messed game... sometimes it corrects itself when in windows, sometimes only Restart helps. At this point the PC is working very well for hours outside games, as soon as I run a game (WoW/Warcraft3) it messes up (its just a matter of time, it may mess up after 5 seconds the game starts or after 20 minutes). Has anyone seen such a problem ? Can anyone suggest what to look at ? Thanks in advance, |

I have the exact same problem.
I have a desktop replacement aka damn, heavy laptop. I have the ATI Radeon Mobility 9700 (M11) 128MB for AX7 (w/ TV Out). Everything was running FAN-TAS-TIC. I was using Omega drivers UNTIL I updated to Windows x64. Then I had all sorts of video problems, which I expected. However, I followed the advice of this site (using the mod tool on the ATI drivers). No go.I ended up with the same problem that you just described. After much searching, soul searching, cussing - I had to install and oooolllLLLLLLLdddddd old, driver from 3/17/2005. Ver 6.14.10.6525. Finally, the problem subsided. But after long game play on Counterstrike, it would happen again. It happens with more frequency on games like Dawn of War and Neverwinter Nights. I am also at my wits end. Have you had any luck yet? My only next step is to rip out the current video card, kick it in the face, then toss it in the nearest abyss. ![]() Here is what I run, in case anyone can help: Hypersonic PC - Aviator AX7 Turbo 3700+ AMD Athlon™ 64 DTR/Mobile Processor w/ PowerNow!™ Tech Microsoft Windows XP Professional x64 SP1 ATI Radeon Mobility 9700 (M11) 128MB for AX7 (w/ TV Out) VIA K8T800 + VT8235 Chipset Mobile Motherboard for AX7 Integrated V.92 56K Fax/Data Modem Internal Bluetooth™ Module for Apache Ruggedized Notebooks Built-in Sound Blaster Compatible Audio (AX Series) 1024MB PC3200 DDR400 SODIMM - Qty: 2 Internal 802.11b+g Turbo 108Mbps Wireless Mini PCI Network Adapter 17" WSXGA+ 1680x1050 VividView™ Display w/ Super Clear Glossy Surface Built-in 4 in 1 Flash Media Card Reader Slots Integrated 10/100 Mbit Ethernet Controller Built-in TV Tuner with Remote Control for AX7 8X DVD ± R/W Drive Dual Layer w/ DVD Recording Software 60GB 7200rpm Ultra ATA Hard Drive w/ 8MB Cache (Extended Operation)
