Lag and soooo slow, why???
i have a Sager 8790 with a ATI Radeon Mobility 9700 (256MB)--i have recently installed the new Windows Vista (OEM). the problem i have is the default driver for this card installed by Windows causes serious lag.. right clicking anything, highlighting icons, opening windows etc--all takes minimum 5-8 seconds. all the ATI (incl. latest 9700 driver) drivers i have installed dont work, even OmegaDrivers. if i disable the Mobility 9700 device in Windows Device Manager, the laptop runs great but with limited resolution, colors, refresh rate.
anyone had this problem on their laptop or PC? how do you override/stop Windows from installing drivers for this card and how can i force it to use ATI/Omega Drivers. as i said, no drivers i've tried work.

It doesnt matter right now whether you use the Windows Driver or ATI driver, I have tried both, and in fact the ATI driver laggs more. I have a Sager NP4750 and I have the SAME Exact problem. Its a driver issue. I will sometimes get a popup saying the driver stopped responding. My card is the ATI Radeon Mobility 9700 (128MB). The drivers are still way to new and ATI needs to fix the driver problem. I have emailed Sager about this and they say they dont support Vista with our cards or platform, thats there answer.

i posted a similar question to another Forum specifically for Sager Notebooks. one reply i had from a guy was this ...
--- "Sorry dude, I'd help you out, but I don't plan on installing Vista on my 8790, mainly for fear of having similar problems with drivers (especially video drivers). You have to find drivers made for Vista in order for the card to work 100% properly. I did a quick search and found this website which claims to have Vista-compatible drivers for a lot of cards, including our mobility 9700 series. Just ctrl + F it, it's on the first page towards the bottom." --- the link is also here: http://www.radarsync.com/vista/vista_more.php?result=0 i've now gotten my Sager 8790 back up 'n running with XP Pro and i'm not going to go through all the drive wiping, re-installing Vista etc until i know somehow that it will work--apart from the Video Card (driver) everything else was ok.

Ya I installed that driver, they had ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9600/9700 Series which was dell's version(R147065) of the Driver (Same exact as ATI's latest), and the same results happened. Its just a test Laptop that I wanted to throw Vista on and start playing around with it, so I guess now I have to wait for ATI to update their current Driver for it.
