Omega 3.8.330 - 3D games not working properly (esp Half-Life 2)
Hi,
I use an IBM Lenovo T60 with an ATI Mobility Radeon X1400, running Windows XP Pro SP2. It's my fastest PC, and it plays Half-Life 2 like nothing I've ever seen :-) But with the original Lenovo ATI drivers HL2 will freeze every few minutes or so. I have to lock Windows, log back in and switch back to the game, and it'll work again. So today I installed the Omega drivers - everyone is raving about them. But it seems I can't get them to work, or I'm missing something. Now Half-Life 2 still looks cool (water reflections rock!), but I can't tell where on the map I am - half the walls are missing, parts of obstacles have transparent holes in them... Also, Serious Sam 2 won't detect the card's video capabilities at all and it claims that I need to go lowest quality and resolution - but highest quality and resolution works once I set it manually. Then there's the posts and Omega FAQ entries about SmartGart - I can't find it, whatever it is. I have no SmartGart service, and the ATI Smart service will start when I tell it to and quit immediately. I completely uninstalled everything by ATI before installing Omega - in fact I installed Omega 3 times already, thinking I must have missed something. There's the Start Menu entry "Advanced Smart Gart Options" which won't start. There's the Start Menu entry "(Re) Install Omega Drivers" which I tried, and it claims it will run a few tests after rebooting, but nothing happens. I am a little frustrated at this point - I want to play my games, and I would love for the Omega drivers to work, and I bet they normally do. But what am I missing? Any Registry keys I need to remove or edit first? Any old driver files that might still be active? Any new driver files that were not copied automatically? Thanks for any help you can give me! You really need to go to the Mobility Forums for help with your mobility-based system. I'll move it over there for you.

Oops, sorry, I guess I should have looked a little closer :-)
I just followed to link to "Support" for the Omega driver... And it had been a long day... Thanks! |

Does no one else have this problem, or am I the only one trying to play games on my laptop?
