no trouble with omega drivers, until now (help!)

Awhile back I was messing around with my Omega driver files and I messed things up royally. So I uninstalled and reinstalled the latest drivers (I figured I needed to anyway). I'm on a 1.5 ghz Pentium M with ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 (with Omega 3.8.330)

I keep several old games on this laptop for when I'm feeling nostalgic. They have all worked with past iterations of Omega drivers, and not until today have I noticed that the latest drivers are being fussy--or that I'm misunderstanding something. Here are a few examples of the problems I'm having:

Fallout 1 & 2 - game loads, but never reaches the menu. It crashes at the intro movie--when I try to skip it, the colors go nuts and nothing happens unless I hit Esc. Then it quits.

Torment - mouse leaves a trail in the menu screen, but the game runs (seemingly) fine.

Ultima 7 (exult) - no problems.

I've played these games before on this computer, with Omega drivers, so I'm not sure what's happened between then and my recent reinstallation. I've messed with the troubleshooting tab in the Advanced options to no avail. SMARTGART thinks it knows what's right, so I'm stumped. The only thing that seems out of place is under Display in the Microsoft settings, the graphics card is called "(Multiple Monitors) on ATI MOBILITY...etc." I can't seem to find a setting to change that inaccuracy (I'm just running on the laptop LCD).

Addiitionally, trying to run these games in 256 colors with XP's option has no effect. Besides these "old" games, the drivers seem to be functioning perfectly. Any ideas? Any experience with this or advice you could give me to troubleshoot? I would be very appreciative.

Thank you! ~DLB
