Vista Drivers not working on your laptop?

There have been quite a few people complaining that their AMD/ATI powered laptops will not accept "reference" drivers from the AMD/ATI website. I asked AMD about this and Terry Makedon give me a reply which im allowed to post on Driver Heaven.

AMD (formerly ATI) introduced the concept of Catalyst Mobility which is a generic driver that works decently for most laptops. The only way we are able to do this is through permission by a laptop manufacturer (OEM) to include their device in the Catalyst Mobility. We were the first company to provide graphics drivers for laptops to the general public, and we believe there is great value in this. At this point we only have permission from a few vendors and I personally wish more of them would let us. My suggestion is you contact your manufacturer and ask them to have your laptop included in Catalyst Mobility. As for Vista specifically we do not have permissions yet, but as soon as we do we look forward to releasing Vista drivers for laptops.

Also we are aware that our mobility modder which has worked for years on XP no longer works on Vista. We are in preparations to update this for Vista, however right now unfortunately we have no time frame. thank you.

Now when it's white its barely readable in cyborheaven... just to let you know....

I was waiting this to come here. I think that OEM's should allow AMD to make the drivers so it would be simpler to update drivers. That is one of the reasons why I would buy Apple's Mac Book over PC laptop. But as said any unhappy laptop user should send e-mail to it's manufacturer.

Strange you would mention this. I installed Catalyst 7.2 for 9600 Mobility using Modtool v4 without issues on Vista Business. Pretty sure .NET 2.0 takes care of the migration issue, as it's a common runtime on all supported platforms. I did not try Catalyst 7.3 or 7.4, since there is really nothing new for that aging card in them, but I would expect them to work as well, since all the changes are largely in the inf file.

Unless, of course, you mean that actual IGP or Mobility driver sets are not supported.
