IGP 9100 and Oblivion
Hi all,
seems i'm unable to install a damn graphic drivers on my notebook I got a acer travelmate 2700, 3 ghz cpu with 512 mb, with Mobility Radeon 9100 IGP on it. If i use the standard VGA drivers supplied on Acer website, (the VGA standard bus) Oblivion starts, but once inside the game, it does not render anything (white screen with just the GUI of the game renderized). If i disinstall the acer oem drivers, i'm not able to install the Catalyst drivers. What i did was the following: - Mobility Modder .net + Catalyst 7.4 - Mobility Modder .net + Catalyst 7.2 - Mobility Modder .net + Catalyst 6.2 - Mobility Modder v3 + Catalyst 7.4 - Mobility Modder v3 + Catalyst 7.2 - Mobility Modder v3 + Catalyst 6.2 For every new attempt, i de installed the drivers before making the new try. I even tried the Omega Drivers (Which recognized my Graphic Card) but no game was able to start (not even WoW which i had no problems with so far). I'm running Win xp Professional SP2. Glad if u could point me to a good direction. |

Greetings and welcome to DriverHeaven!
I don't own a laptop, but, I can pretty much imagine that your biggest problem is the lack of System RAM. With only 512 MB, I'd say the system is choking to try to start and render Oblivion. I didn't start getting decent performance until I installed 2 GB of System RAM on my Desktop computer with an X800 XL AGP card. Even then, the game played nice at 1024x768 with several settings set to medium or lower. If anyone with a laptop like yours has been able to play Oblivion, I'd love to find out how they got it to work. Good luck! |

My guess is you can't play oblivion with that system. My laptop (3.2ghz P4, radeon 9000, 1 gb ram) couldn't even load the thing on basement setting, 800*600 resolution. I'm not sure the card is even supported.
You might want to try the Omega 4.12's as I've found them to be the best with my ancient card, I've played WoW and Guild Wars, as well as HL2 with nice looking settings. But oblivion, I'm afraid is out of your reach. |

I just did a quick look again at the recommended requirements for Oblivion here: http://www.elderscrolls.com/games/oblivion_faq.htm
They say the minimum System RAM is 512 MB. They don't even list any mobility video cards as being supported. But, you have to keep in mind that the IGP cards use the system RAM to function. So, that 512 MB that is in your system now is being spread out for both the system and the video. It's just too lean on System RAM to function for a game with such heavy requirements as this one. I'm not even sure if it would do it with 1 GB of RAM.... or even 2. |

Oldest supported video card is the radeon 9500. Most games don't officially support mobility cards, but they often work (with modded drivers). They do however have to match their respective desktop card.

Thanks very much for your answers
Apparently it's indeed a ram/hardware spec problem, as i'm able to play normally WoW, Gw,Lineage2, but Oblivion..as u said i guess it's just out of reach for my system to use it. Thanks again |
