??? Having problem when updating ATI display driver for HP laptop

I've bought a compaq notebook(Compaq Presario B1900) from HP about 10 months ago, which is supported by ATI radeon X200M , and I'm having problem in updating the driver of the display card(in fact I've never success in installing it).

The latest version I've tried to install was "7-4_xp_dd_44981", which I've found from the driver page of ATI. While installing the driver, a message appeared:
"Setup did not find a driver compatible with your current hardware or operating system. Setup will now exit."

And when I tried an older version "7-3_xp_dd_43737", the same message appeared,
but follow with another one:
"Setup was unable to complete the installation. Try to setup your display
adapter with a standard VGA driver before running setup
."

I've tried to install the latest version of radeon Xpress 200's
display driver in my older hp desktop which also supported by ATI,
and I did it successfully, but I just can't did it successfully to my notebook.

Then, I contacted ATI for support, but they said that they will not giving any
support to notebook/laptop, and ask me to contact HP.

I've tried to install the driver provided by HP successfully, but the provided
version was release on last year (Aug, 06), which is not useful to me.
So, I tried seeking help from HP, but the customer service group just send back the same driver which released on Aug, 06 to me....

I've also tried using modtool4, however, fail again........

So I would like to know what happen with my notebook? do I miss something or
did something wrong?

Would anyone please show my the steps of installing display driver for my notebook
(e.g. what should I do first/which software should I download, etc.) ?
Sorry for bothering as my english is not so good.

Greetings and welcome to DriverHeaven.

Since this is a laptop problem (which I'm unable to help you with) I'll move this to the Mobility section of the forums. Perhaps there you can get the help you need.

However, do keep in mind that laptops do fall into a category where, in most cases, only the manufacturer can provide the needed support.

Good luck!
