ATI Mobility Radeon X1700 Driver

I have an ASUS V1Jp with the X1700 card running Windows XP SP2. Tried installing the ATI Cat 7.4 drivers with the Mobility Modder, but it didn't work. It starts the installation but then gives the message that setup didn't find a compatible driver. I did manage to install the Omega 3.8.330 drivers, although I had to finish the installation manually thru the Device Manager. But the Omega Mod is based on Cat 7.1 and I was hoping I could get more up to date. Hope someone here has got a solution. Would really appreciate it

I have the same situation - I'm a complete noob about all this and just wanted to buy a laptop with the best graphics I could get to run EverQuest 2 from hotels.

I've read all the files with the modder and on this site, and can't find a way to upgrade past the old drivers that shipped with my laptop.

I've managed to upgrade to Catalyst version, but I get the error message after following all instructions with the modder app that says it can't install. This is what Catalyst shows I have installed now:

Driver Packaging Version 8.36-070314a3-044983C-ATI
Catalyst® Version 07.4
Provider ATI Technologies Inc.
2D Driver Version 6.14.10.6683
2D Driver File Path System/CurrentControlSet/Control/Video/{06160B59-2804-404D-87A4-90FB4B5E1798}/0000 Direct3D Version 6.14.10.0489
OpenGL Version 6.14.10.6458
Catalyst® Control Center Version 2007.0322.2238.38535

What I don't understand is why AMD/ATI doesn't even list the X1700 as a valid graphics card under driver selections on its site.

I would not have purchased this ASUS comp had I known it was going to be this much of a hassle to upgrade my drivers. I've always had problems with ASUS drivers, and am not sure what I was thinking when I bought this.

Any help on how to upgrade my drivers will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

bump

I have the same problem with my Asus G2P, and I can't play any OpenGL games because the drivers are so out-of date with my Vista machine.

Any help would be great

I see that you are talking about Omega's drivers. You might want to try the DH Mobility Modder.NET and use it to mod newest Catalyst drivers from AMD. And remember to read the instructions on the mobility modder.net page.

Get the tool here : http://www.hardwareheaven.com/modtool/

Sad Re: ATI Mobility Radeon X1700 Driver

I don't know if I did it wrong, I have ATI Radeon X1700 too, and I used these:
9-11_vista32_win7_32_dd_ccc_wdm_enu.exe (latest Catalyst for Vista/Win 7
MMDotNETSetup1210.zip (latest Mobility Modder .NET)
In Vista I got blue screens, in Win 7 I got an error.
The link for the driver was:
Drivers & Support | GAME.AMD.COM

6 months ago I succeed in Vista using these:
8-12_vista32_dd_ccc_wdm_enu_72275.exe
MMDotNETSetup1110.zip
Where did I go wrong? Or does the latest Catalyst do not support X1700?

Got this problem solved through this post.

It was another driver, the legacy driver. Why didn't the normal catalyst driver work?
