Drivers for Mobility 9100 IGP - because of crash issues when gaming

I hope no one minds me elaborating lots on my first post, but this is just to set the scene and see if I'm barking up the wrong tree.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
My laptop (NEC) is about 3 years old and there have never been any real problems during daily usage as well as playing TFC, a mod of HL1 using Steam on LAN. However, I moved and started using a wireless connection, and every so often, the wireless connection would *die* even though it was still connected, and only a hard reset (or disconnect-reconnect) would revive it.

I finally got round to updating the Wireless card driver by using Windows Update to search for a new driver. This absolutely resolved my wireless disconnection issues, but since then (I think) a new issue has popped up when I start playing TFC (Team Fortress Classic).

It runs fine for game play but at some point during this play-time, the whole system will crash as if I've ripped the battery out of the laptop (black screen of death!), which means I have to power up the laptop as if I've just turned it off. I also have to manually reset the wireless by physically pressing the control button on my laptop.

The main reason why I'm thinking it could be a graphics issue is because the laptop never crashes during daily usage nor video playback (using VLC/Windows Media Player Classic) but *only* during gaming. It doesn't seem to be a Steam issue either but then again I'm not sure.

An acquaintance suggested that it could be the new wireless driver conflicting with the graphics driver (causing overheating?) and suggested I update the driver for the graphics card, but Windows Update isn't giving any joy, and neither is the ATI/AMD website.

The current driver version is: 6.14.10.6422 from Jan 27th 2004. I understand that there may be a newer version according to Versiontracker but having read up a bit more about DH mod-tool and Omega, I wondered if I should consider looking into them as well.

I would be very grateful if someone could recommend an option that I should take, or if I am barking up the wrong tree, perhaps point me in the right direction to resolve the issue. TFC is the only game I play frequently for recreational purposes and I'm 100% certain that the crashes have a hugely negative effect on the laptop.

Thank you in advance!

p/s: I am a little bit confused though about the DH-mod-tool, if there is no longer a desktop driver for 9100 available from ATI/AMD, how would I effectively use DH for the Mobility version?
