Pissed Best drivers for Acer 5672 w/ Mobility x1600?

Okay, I have an Acer 5672wlmi with a Mobility Radeon x1600. Acer is a terrible company, with no concern about their customers, and they do not provide driver updates. Additionally, ATI does not support Acer laptops. Consequently, my video drivers are more than a year out of date (version 8.202, while the latest Mobility version is 8.38).

I'm having a lot of issues with new games, namely freezing and crashes in almost anything using the Source engine (Half-Life 2, Counter-Strike Source, Garry's Mod 10), as well as some corruption in Escape from Butcher Bay and terrible framerates in Knights of the Old Republic.

The card's performance is also horrible but this apparently due to shared memory and underclocking? It runs worse than a Mobility x700 in ever test I've ever looked at. Good job, ATI, making the newer cards slower.

I've tried Omega drivers, the modded desktop drivers, and the direct install Mobility drivers, but all of them have been even more unstable in the Source engine and caused corruption in some other games. I haven't tried anything in the last few months because it takes so many hours to do all that testing.

Does anyone have this laptop and know a good driver version that works with the Source engine and/or other games I've mentioned?

Hi.
I also have an acer 5672 with ATI X1600. I'm using Mobility Modder with ATI's latest driver (8.38) on Windows Vista Home Premium. Source-based games are running fine ( half-life 2, dark messiah).

God dammit, I just tried it again and they still don't work. It freezes after 20-30 seconds of play. There goes another 4 hours of my life.

I guess the Vista and XP drivers work differently.

I have the same problem on my Acer 8200. Personally I think Acer is just shit. Good luck!
