ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2400 XT problem

Hey all, I've recently got a new laptop, and I'm having problems getting the graphics card to be recognized, and therefore am unable to install the drivers.

The Story:

I bought a new Acer Travelmate 5720G, following specs (copied):
Processor Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Santa-Rosa ( (T7300 - 2.0GHz, 800MHz FSB, 4MB)
Screen 15.4" (Crystalbrite WXGA Acer TFT LCD)
Operating System Windows Vista Home Premium Edition
RAM HIGH (2048MB 2GB)
Hard Drive 160GB
Optical Drive DVD Rewriter (Records DVDs 8x & CDs 24x & Dual Layer Super Multi)
Graphics Dedicated (ATI Mobility™ Radeon® HD 2400 XT with up to 1024 MB Hypermemory™)

Now it ran fine like this, but due to the software compatibilities issues with Vista, I'd already decided I was switching the OS to XP Home (The only packages of the laptop with XP preinstalled only had integrated graphics). So I managed to get XP installed and updated, but now the graphics card is only being detected as 'Video Controller (VGA Compatible)', and whenever I try to install the drivers for it I get the following error message:

'Setup did not find a driver compatible with your current hardware or operating system.
Setup will now exit.'

I've tried uninstalling all ATI software and then reinstalling in safe mode, tried Omega, DNA, and the Mobility Modder, and nothing is managing to install drivers or actually detect the card properly.

Anyone got any ideas on how to solve this without switching back to Vista? As I need the laptop working for my uni course (3D animation), and without a properly working graphics card I'm a little stuck.

Many thanks.

Solved...

Download a driver http://www.drivermagician.com/driver..._enu_52443.exe

Then install, then it will say it doesn't recognize the driver, then go to your device manager, then click on the graphics you wanna install, then choose reinstall driver, then click install from sepcific, then dont search, i will choose, then choose display adapters, then click have a disk. point it to the dir where you installed the above file - ending has to be "7-9_xp32_dd_ccc_wdm_enu_52443\Driver\Driver\XP_INF" and OK. Then search for your video card driver. Trust me it is there. Click yes to continue and ENJOY!

Thanks! Didn't think of trying that, but it seems to have worked, so I can get these programs installed and running now.

Similar problem, on vista

I have a similar problem with my HD 2400 XT also. I was going to install the newest drivers from ATI/AMD because i was experiencing some graphical problems in newer games. Though when i had uninstalled the current drivers, and installed the Catalyst ones from ATI/AMD, nothing happened. It goes through the setup just fine, doesn't complain about anything, no compatibily errors, nothing. Though when it's done and i restart the system, i still have my "standard VGA card" with 16 mb video memory and crappy resolution. So i don't understand why the drivers don't get installed. Any ideas?

Hi there and welcome to DriverHeaven!

It seems that the drivers .inf files don't have the hardware ID's for your mobility card.
What I recomend you to do is to uninstall the drivers and use our modtool to mod the drives so that they will work with your mobility chip.
