Question about the 340m

So after 8hrs of installing stinking vista, I find there are no drivers for this video card?

Is that true? I have searched and searched and found nothing.

Call me a dumba$$ but I am tired of reading through the 30 page tread about the 340m. I have downloaded several files and drivers but nothing is working.

I have about 6hrs invested trying to find drivers for vista. I don't care about the performance I just need working drivers.

Does someone have the fix for vista? not pointing me to the 30 page tread.

Thanks for any help, I am going INSANE and ready to throw this laptop out the window.

Fyi, I have a sony pcg-k23

Hello, and welcome to DriverHeaven.net

My apologies for the late reply, things have been busy.

It would seem tthat sony has decided that your pcg-k23 didn't meet the standards to run vista, and ergo, didn't want to release vista drivers for it....how nice of them.

I am also quite aware that the thread i started 2 years ago has grown unruly....but most of the information is near the beginning aroubnd pages 5 through 15.

Windows Vista uses a new display driver model called WDDM, which the IGP 340M does not support. However windows vista can use legacy XP drivers for older chipsets, which use the XP driver model, or XDDM. In any case, Vista has built in drivers for the IGP 340m, and should have initialized properly when you installed vista.

Please note, XDDM drivers, an the IGP 340m are not capable of rendering the Aero Glass interface.

I am going to need a little bit more information on your system before i can guide you to a good solution. For example, what graphics problem are you having? Are you geting a specifice "Code" for the graphics device in Device manager? Code 10, or Code 43, and Code tweleve are usually the most common ones encounter with this chipset and Vista.

I would also need more information in regards to what your soundcard is, whether vista has recognized it, and if possible, do you know what make your southbridge chipset is? Commonly, the IGP 3xxM chips are coupled with ULi/ALi soutbridges.

The driver that i have posted in my thread here: http://web.newsguy.com/nomnet/Radeon_IGP_3xxM.zip , courtesy of the user Nom. See post 406 on page 28. They are the same drivers built into vista, however they were missing OpenGL driver library files, which i added to support gaming in vista with this old chipset. These drivers are based on Catalyst 6.4

Good luck, take care
