Problems with changing resolution

I have a Fujitsu Lifebook N6410. I've installed OmegaDriver 3.8.413 (Catalyst 7.9.1), but I think I've been having this problem for at least the last version or two (I think).

It isn't a constant problem, but a random one. Sometimes, it doesn't like changing screen resolutions. If I try to do it in Display properties or with MultiRes, it'll tell me I'll need to reboot (and even if I do, it'll still be at the same resolution as it was already at).

And this causes a problem with the Orange Box, too. If the game can't switch the resolution to full-screen, it gives me an error "Failed to create D3D Device."

Anyone know what's causing this? Should I download to an older OmegaDriver? Should I stick with the official ATI drivers? Some setting/registry I can change that'll fix this?

Still having problems with this...
I have Omega 3.8.442 (Catalyst 7.12) installed now.

Additionally... How do I enable "Hide modes that this monitor cannot display"? It's greyed out (although, it didn't use to be, and I didn't have problems when I could enable that). The highest natural resolution of my monitor is 1440x900, and I don't want anything higher than that (I don't like panning displays...).
Device manager lists three "Default Monitors" which I think may be linked to this problem... I try to uninstall the extras, but they keep returning after every reboot...
