Vista & ATI x1600 Mobility

Hello,

I have a laptop Benq P52, PCI ATI x1600 Mobility Radeon videocard.
OS: Windows Vista 32-bit Ultimate.

After i install any version of drivers for videocard (with DH ModTool), windows runs normally, all is working fine, but only untill i load any DirectX or OpenGL game.
The game freeze and i see only black screen. I waited for 1 hour about, and nothing happened.

Maybe someone have same problem, and has already fixed it?

P.S. With Windows Vista standart video drivers all games is running normally.
P.P.S Modded drivers for Windows XP are working fine, seems like it's ATI Vista drivers problem.

Thanks.

which driver set did you modify? did you install them cleanly or over the top of a previous set. sounds like a bad installation to me.

I tryed 7.6 - 7.11, same problem, Black Screen when loading any game.
Istalled cleanly (used driver cleaner).

I have found few posts about same problem on other forums with x1600 videocard on Benq P52 laptop, there is no answers too.

I tryed to install only driver from ATI, still no luck.
Strange that all is ok with Windows Vista default drivers.

Hmm.... And ATI/AMD says that for Vista you need to contact laptop maker order to get drivers on their site. Can you tell us your hardware id for that chip and dxdiag's information.
Did you run the cleaner in safe mode?

modded 7.11 will do. And I see the device id there so now the mod tool maker can add it if it's missing for some reason.

I cleaned drivers in safe mode, and installed then 7.11 modified drivers.
I get Black Screen anyways after loading a game.
I forgot to tell that PC not really freezing, i see that hard disk is working all the time during black screen, but i can't do nothing, only reset button helps.

Ok, thanks very much for reply, i will wait for the new version of ModTool.

Ok. I've done some research on this matter and came to conclusion that the problem you are having is driver issue. And since ATi/AMD aren't providing any drivers to mobility chips in Vista then you should ask for official drivers from Benq.

I asked them about 3 months ago and they answered that Benq P52 laptop is not supported in Windows Vista.

Is there any chance that new version of ModTool will fix problem, or it is a driver issue and can't be fixed?

Now that's weird since when I looked their site they were promoting Vista for that laptop...

ModTool will only modify the .inf files so it don't change the drivers in any way so I thing that it would not solve the issue.

Yeah it's sad, i will send a letter to support again, will see what they answer.

So last hope is for Omega & NGO modified drivers, if they will support Windows Vista in future?

It's nice, i hope he will read this thread and fix this videocard problem.

And here is the answer i received 10 minutes ago:
Quote:
Dear Sir,
We not supporting other drivers except the one is included in the
Recovery cd provided when you purchased the Joybook.
Officially this model come in in XP OS, so you cant used it in Vista.
There will not be a release in Vista, the logo for Vista on the website
is referring to the LCD monitor that is certified for Vista.
Rgds,
BenQ Europe Support

Have had the same problem. I`ve got working drivers now ( tested, running many games in fullscreen properly ). If You want them, send me your e-mail address, i`ll send them to You
Anyway, Omega modded drivers will be out in one month ( got the info from Omega ) so our problems should end shortly
