Need Help with ATI Radeon Mobility 9700 Driver Suggestion

Hey all, I’m wondering if anyone can recommend what updated drivers to use for a Radeon Mobility 9700 graphics card. Here are my specs: (please read rest of post to see what has been happening....)

Hypersonic GX7 Laptop (3 1/2 years old)
Pentium 4 3.4 Ghz Processor
ATI Radeon Mobility 9700 AGP (0x4E50) w/ 256MB
1 GB Ram
Intel 865PE+ICH5 Chipset Socket 478 Mobile Motherboard
Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Sound card (PCMCIA slot)
Realtek AC97 Audio (onboard sound)
Windows XP Home

I had been running all my games with no issues, using the Omega 3.8.330 (Catalyst 7.1) drivers. I just recently tried to play Red Orchestra, after not playing for awhile, and I started crashing to desktop with CreateTexture errors, among many other errors. I tried updating my video drivers (tried Omega 3.8.413 - based on Catalyst 7.9.1 - and the ATI Catalyst 7.11 drivers), ran Crap Cleaner, did a Registry clean, among other things and the only thing that happened was I then started crashing in every game I played. LOTR online started crashing and I’ve never had a problem with that. I tried installing and running Half Life 2 and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and they both crashed. So, I finally decided to do a fresh install of Windows XP and start over. I want to try to get this right the first time so I’m looking for any advice. I read on the ATI site that there have been problems with AGP and Catalyst drivers higher than version 7.7; but I continued having problems when I uninstalled the higher versions and went back to the Omega 3.8.330 drivers (Catalyst 7.1); so now I’m confused. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot! (Can you believe I got so frustrated that I actually started thinking about an XBOX 360.....I hope it doesn't come to that.)

Given the age of the card, it might be in your best interests to run an older driver.
