ati x2300hd - driver

Hello peeps,
I have an fujitsu-siemens amilo notebook with an ati mobility radeon x2300 hd adapter, running vista 32bit, and I was wondering if you can advise what is the best driver for this card. I installed modded catalyst 7.12 but I am really not sure if I see any difference in performance (playing cod4). I also just noticed that the modded driver does not list x2300 hd as supported under Vista (only hd2300 or x2300): is that important? Should I revert to the drivers provided by my notebook manufacturer?

One more thing, I am not that tech savvy: what benchmarking utility would you recommend so I can run test with different catalyst versions?

I would appreciate your help!

Hi there and welcome to DriverHeaven!

I think that the current modded drivers are the best for you now...

And what the divers say it's not important. 3dMark 06 is good for that kind of testing.

ok, thank you for the prompt reply!
one more thing: would tweaking catalyst options improve graphics, or should I leave that alone? If it would, which settings should I tweak, or can you direct me to a guide on that?
I really appreciate your help!

This depends on what you are actually wanting. Do you want better Image Quality, or better overall Performance? If you want better performance, then slide the selection slider all the way to the Performance setting for all 3D applications. If you want the best overall Image quality, then slide that slider all the way to the opposite end.

For the record, if you're after a higher 3DMark score, using the Performance setting is what you want to use.

guys,

I ran 3dMark tests on both the latest Catalyst drivers and the original ones, issued by Fujitsu-Siemens, both on default settings, and guess what? The original ones fare better by about 70 marks. not much, but still, that's something.
