VGA Output from Radeon 2600 HD to LCD TV (1360x768)

Dear all,

I have the following issue with my Toshiba A210 laptop: when I try to use the Radeon 2600 HD graphic card's VGA output to display video signal on a LG LCD TV (26 inch), the display driver does not want to use 1360x768 resolution. It only works in 1024x768, but this res. has 4:3 aspect ratio and images look distorted. I use the "switching display" method (Fn+F5), not "extend windows desktop onto this monitor" method. The LCD TV does not have any particular monitor drivers which I can use, so I use the "Default monitor" in Display Properties.
The same LCD TV used as a monitor for an older desktop (which has a Nvidia GeForce FX 5700) works perfectly with 1360x768 res.
I tried the Omega drivers but they do not work at all.

Does anyone have any idea how can I "convince" the display driver to select 1360x768 resolution?

Thanks,
Hermetikos

Hi there and welcome to DriverHeaven.

I think that the VGA output is limited in hardware to 1024x768 resolution. What you could do is to call Toshiba's support and verify what is the max resolution on that VGA out.

the hardware shouldn't be limited to 1024x768... however toshiba's own "modified driver" is likely your culprit...

you'll have to call toshiba either way.

1360x768 works on all ati video cards i've got from the x200 right up to the latest hd4780

right click> settings> advanced> Monitor> uncheck Hide modes that this monitor cannot display

that should fix the problem

It does not fix anything. Trust me, I tried almost anything possible so far.
By the way, I downloaded yesterday the latest Catalyst version from ATI site, but the installer says that it does not find a compatible driver with the chipset that I have.
If anyone has any idea other than the ones enumerated so far, please let me know.

Thanks,
Hermetikos

I finally did it! I installed PowerStrip and chose from their list of display resolutions the one needed (1366x768 LCD). It works flawlessly. After that, I uninstalled PowerStrip, but the resolution remained in "Display properties", so I can change to that whenever I want.

Cheers,
Hermetikos
