x2300 will only work with vista
Hi, this is my first thread. I have searched (here and Google etc), and have not been able to solve this problem. I have an ASUS Z53JR, that originally had vista. Installed XP, three times, and I am still having issues with the video drivers. I have used a lot of different drivers (new and old) and it seems to be installed correctly in device manager, but apparently the Direct3d function does not function in XP, i.e. DXDIAG crashes (unless I turn hardware acceleration down until direct3d is off), no games work etc. I dual boot for now, so I can use the laptop for games, but I want to be able to play in xp. The only thing that I see may have an affect, but I am not entirely sure, is that in GPU-Z I see the GPU as an M64, but in the modded INF it is listed as M54 for the x2300. I dont know if this will have an impact or not. Any thoughts? I appreciate any help or advice.

Hi there and welcome to DriverHeaven!
Did you tried to use our modtool to mod the original AMD/ATi drivers? You can get the tool from here : http://www.hardwareheaven.com/modtool.php |

Yes, I did use the modtool from here. Unfortunately it did not work for my case
I am starting to think it might be something with xp versus vista, which sucks cause I dont really like vista at all. Does it matter if the modded inf has M54 instead of M64 for the x2300? I am not very knowledgable on how it works, or maybe GPU-Z is showing an incorrect core. I did google it and have seen both instances of an M54 and M64 listed as the core for an X2300. The only problem is I am in Afghanistan and the military network restricts a lot of sites to access, so maybe I am missing something that I havent seen. BTW, the Mobility modder is a great tool! Thanks.

I think not.
This deal is what you usually get when you don't use the OS that the manufacturer has meant to use. There is no quarantine that the laptop will work 100% on other OS's. Stay safe in there. |

Update
Well, I noticed some things werent quite right with my XP install when I was trying to do some other things, and when I went to re-install I noticed at the part where you press F8 the EULA said it was the pre-release version of XP service pack 2. So I found an OEM XP SP 2 disc, did the repair windows installation and I got it to work. So I guessed the culprit was the pre-release version of XP. Sorry about the confusion, but thanks for the help.
