hd3470 --->hd3450 with 8.8catalyst modded

hi all,
i've a problem:

on my acer 5920 i've installed winxp in a new partition, and i've installed with mobility modder the latest catalyst driver for hd3400 series.
i've a hd3470 but on winxp ati ccc said that i've installed an hd3450, with lower frequencies!

how i can resolve that problem?

thank you

Hi there and welcome to DriverHeaven!

The thing that the card is identified wrong don't mean that it won't work at it's full power. Since you have laptop the lower frequencies are used in 2D mode, in 3D they will be higher.

lower frequency are in 3d mode i think, because are the same frequency that you can see where they talk about hd3450 (680core 500memory), while hd3470 3d frequency are a bit higher

i have the same problem with you, giangy11.

Since i have installed the driver of ati Mobility Radeon hd 3400 series, my computer says that there is a driver which is wronyly installed and suggests me to re-install it.

So now i am using the original driver.

p.s. my laptop is lenovo T400

I have got the ati mobility radeon hd 3470, also my laptop's os is window vista32.
The driver that i have downloaded from the ati is the one for the radeon Hd 3400series.
I used it to do the modify work. Yet the finally result is same as giangy11, my os tell me i have installed Hd 3450 instead of Hd 3470.

Just to help out Ruud with this, but if you guys can post the "Device Instance IDs" for your display adaptor shown under the "Details" tab for your card under "Device Manager" that would help him out greatly for future releases. It should look like similar to this:

DEV_27A6 (although this one is for the Intel 945 graphics)

There's the problem. According to AMD's PC Vendors list 95C4 is registered to the HD3400 series, but more specifically the Mobility HD3450 (you can check the list out HERE). By the looks of things the modder is changing the drivers to reflect this, which is why it's loading the way it is for you guys, while the drivers you guys are getting off of each respective site (Acer and Lenovo) are vendor specific modded drivers to reflect that you have an HD3470, and not an HD3450.

in your opinion with these drivers, with wich hd3470 looks like an hd3450, there would be a loss of performance in 3d games?

There are no loss of performance since the driver is same for all cards.

Although, going by what both giangy11 and abck have mentioned, for some reason the clock rates seem to be governed by the drivers, not the firmware on the card. If that's the case then yes there would be a performance difference because the clock rate for the GPU is clocked lower than the manufacturers driver.

It should be noted that the latest drivers from Lenovo for the T400 were issued August 23.08, and are actually Catalyst 8.8 drivers (graphic driver v.8.522). Going from modded official drivers to manufacturer modded drivers, which are official drivers anyways, won't give you an ounce of improvement except in the case of the clock rate changes. I don't know about Acers drivers, but since the drivers off of Lenovos site work as they should I would just use those ones, especially seeing as how they are the latest drivers.

Yeah they are built for those laptops so they are the best drivers for those laptops. And I do recomend them over the modded ones.

my problem is on winxp, that hasn't official driver supported by acer for this videocard (because it's only supported on Vista)
anyway i think it's not a big problem, on Vista CCC the frequencies appears to be the same to Winxp (680gpu-500ram) the only different thing is the memory:
on xp 512
on vista:1356
both sharing memory

Seeing as how the Lenovo laptop that abck has is using the same graphics chip you could use the driver off of their site on your laptop. It should work just fine. You can get that right HERE.

Give it a shot, and see what happens.

2 things I can suggest.

1) Look for other Acer laptops that have the same card, and then look to see if there are XP drivers available from the for those laptops.

2) After you run the mobility modder on the official drivers you could try to alter them even further by swapping the necessary sections of the setup files with the parts from the Acer drivers. Essentially you'd be swapping any section of the drivers done by the mobility modder that reference 95C4 with the sections in the Acer driver.

I'll look into the last part for you, and post back later.

thank you for your answer

unfortunately there aren't other acer laptops with drivers for winxp.

anyway it's not a big problem right now with the latest 8.8catalyst modded, winxp recognizes hd3450 but graphic 3d is good enough

on call of duty 4, detail high, medium shadows and water, 1280x768, no aa, 20-25fps constantly, with high of 40-50 fps
