HD2600 graphic corruption/glitch on Vista aero desktop

Hi:

From time to time, often but not always on startup, I experience corruption of the graphics in the form of a sort of greenish overlay with clear rectangles over certain parts of the aero desktop on Vista Home Premium SP1 32bit.

the corruption appears in different places at different times. Here are a few examples:

This is on a Toshiba Satellite Pro A200 with ATI mobility HD2600 256M, with unmodified Toshiba drivers (8.452). This happens generally on booting or coming out of standby (maybe every fifth time?) and then eventually goes away. Also, I have played Bioshock all the way through on this computer with no graphics issues whatsoever, and i've never seen any graphics problems anywhere else (DVD playback or anything) except in aero - that's why i wonder if it's somehow a problem with the interaction between Vista and the driver

Anyone ever seen anything similar or have any idea about fixes? thanks!

Hi.

Using mobility modder on the latest generic driver and catalyst from ati's website finally seems to have corrected this problem. Have run for several weeks without problems.

thanks for your help

Re: HD2600 graphic corruption/glitch on Vista aero desktop

I'm not sure what the problem was, toshiba has never updated that 8.452 driver that was tailored to my model, but installing the generic ATI driver using mobility modder fixed the problem forever for me.

On the other hand, sometimes in games the computer now overheats and shuts off abruptly unless I elevate it with a book or something to give the fan more air to intake. But that probably has more to do with toshiba putting in a more powerful graphics card (to drive the obsolete HDDVD drive in this model, probably) than with using the generic drivers.

What driver version are you using?
