Newb Question about Radeon 7500 and Omega
Hello,
Hopefully this isn't a stupid question!! I downloaded the following driver for an older laptop (Dell C640 with the Radeon 7500 card): Radeon Omega Drivers 3.8.252 (Catalyst 6.5) I believe that was the last driver for this series of chip. Noted that when streaming video online the chip seems very slow. Are there specific settings I should be "reducing" in the ATI Omega Tray Tools application? I.e., everything is set to default right now. Resolution is 1152x864 if that matters? AGP speed is set to "4X". 3D is set to Direct3D, default settings. The Dell has just over 1 gig of ram (1 gig stick and an older 256meg stick). Just wondering if there are settings that will speed the card up a bit! Thanks! |

Hi - no such thing as a stupid question.
![]() All the settings you posted look fine. If you are receiving streaming video - I was wondering what video playback plugin you are using - you might try testing with a different video player plugin as a check. Frankly, the latest Dell drivers for mine (a C610 with the original Mobility Radeon M6) worked the best. I did use the Omega driversets extensively when the unit was new, and games at the time played very well, but the driverset did have trouble with video media - such as you are viewing. I think I would do an uninstall of the Omega set and try the latest set from Dell. Edit: you might also take a chance on modding (with the DH Mobility Modder) the desktop 6.11 Catalyst set from ATI - it should support your chip actually...

I thought 6.5 was the last one that worked with the 7500 series?
Thanks. |

Also,
Is "modding" the 6.11 to work with my chip difficult? |

No, it's not really difficult at all - complete instructions with the DH Mobility Modder software available Right Here
However, again, I would recommend trying the latest Dell driverset for your laptop Available Here first, to see if your problem is fixed with that. The latest Dell driverset is likely going to be the most compatible for use with your laptop.
