??? Mobile Radeon HD 3450 Driver recommendations pls!

Hi, I've got the stock HP provided OEM Radeon 3450 drivers running right now, I was wondering what, if any, alternate drivers or mods other users recommend. I read a lot about how ATI CCC sux and I would love to get rid of it, tbh. I haven't used mobility modder in about 2+ years but I wouldn't mind using it again if necessary...

What do ya'll recommend? Omega Drivers still the sox roxorz or what? I haven't been in the GPU driver game for a long time...

DH shows my last login as Dec 6th 2007

Thanks for any help!

edit: sorry, forgot...I'm using XP Pro.

edit again: omfg...its a notebook too...Mobile GPU

I doubt that the Omega driver will work. It hasn't been updated for a long time now, about since that last time you were logged on and that card is probably to new to work well with that.

Since you're running XP, presumably 32 bit, you can try this one:

Mobile Catalyst Download

If that doesn't work the only option is to try and mod the driver yourself and if that fails as well then there isn't much you can do but wait.

An Overclock.com membet gave me this link:

tweakforce.com - Downloads

Never heard of them, but I guess I'll check that out!

Thanks for your info, too!

Re: Mobile Radeon HD 3450 Driver recommendations pls!

I'd recommend OMEGAs, mobility modded for XP.

On my laptop, with a 3450, I am using DNA 9.1 drivers, as omega does not support Vista. I installed with no CCC, and use Ati Tray Tools (use beta version) |MG| ATI Tray Tools 1.6.9.1382 Beta
Only problem with this arrangement, that I have not put in the time to figuring out yet, is how to enable powerplay without CCC.
If you are running the laptop with the power cord plugged in, it should not be a problem. But your battery life will be shorter without powerplay, as it will not underclock your card to save power when you are using it.

Re: HD 3450 Driver recommendations pls!

Ah I see, never heard of DNA, and curiously enough through all of my testing today I forgot to install the latest Omega drivers! >_< what a fool...

I basically run my laptop plugged in 95% of the time. I've got ATI Tray Tools...but it seems that my GPU is locked no matter what driver/app combination I use. I tried

Catalyst 9.2/9.1 modded
Xtreme-G 8.7 modded
Latest HP drivers

with

ATI Tray Tools
ATI Tool
AMD GPU Clock Tool
Riva Tuner
Powerstrip

and all similar results - core stayed at 249, mem @ 346.

Re: HD 3450 Driver recommendations pls!

your clocks will be stuck until you flash the drive, consequently there are no BIOSes available for our HD3450 card, so that makes it kinda impossible.

Consider yourself lucky, though, you have a higher memory clock than me - i only have 250/248.

I am curious, are you able to SAVE BIOS using GPUZ? http://dl6.techpowerup.com//SysInfo/...PU-Z.0.3.2.exe - click the little button on the right side of BIOS or does it tell you that BIOS READING is not supported?

If you can save your BIOS, you can edit it and mod it to have custom clocks. Additionally, if you are able to save it please post a copy here for me to use

Actually, and sorry I haven't been in to update yet, but using latest Omega drivers (7.12) I am able to change the clocks. See this thread:

OC troubles [Mobility 3450, ATITool, AMD GPU Clock Tool] - Notebook Forums and Laptop Discussion

edit: I should also say here that in that thread I was advised to try Catalyst 8.9 and 8.10 instead of Omega and they work for changing the clock as well, better it seems...see that thread for details on the trouble I am having...

Absolutely not! lol I was dissapointed to find out that R5xx GPUs are not supported for dumping...before I found out about the other drivers I thought the same as you that I would have to flash the BIOS. I also tried on ATI Tray Tools...no go. Didn't try RivaTuner since it's useless for this card anyways.

As an aside, this must be the only forum I forgot to post a follow up in xD oops!

Re: HD 3450 Driver recommendations pls!

Well I'll definitely try 8.10/.9 and see if that works for me. I'll even try it with DNA 8.10/.9, for a small extra boost.

On a side note, regarding your Ati Tray Tools problem, I had the same issue using the latest "stable" release, the clocks were not changing and not being recognized. However, with 1.5.9 (1.6.9 that I linked not tested yet) recognized them.

Edit: 1.6.x ATT works at recognizing the clocks as well. The stable ATTs don't have support for HD 3x cards yet, I think.

Re: HD 3450 Driver recommendations pls!

kylezo,
in response to your notebookreview post, the reason I think it is showing your clocks as different numbers is because AMDGPUTOOL is using DDR values, while GPUZ is using BIOS values. DDR is 2 times larger, or something, I am not sure how it works tbh but this is how it looks.

Re: HD 3450 Driver recommendations pls!

I think I know what you mean, in AMD GPU Clock Tool it actually says, BIOS Clock if I'm not mistaken.

I just checked, and I am mistaken, although I could swear I saw BIOS clock somewhere in some program...
Ah-ha, it's ATI Tray Tools that shows BIOS GPU/Mem and Current GPU/Mem. It also has a checkbox labeled 'Show as DDR2' which shows my memory unchecked as 700/349 (bios/current) and checked it shows 1400/693. The GPU Value doesn't change presumably because DDR2 has nothing to do with the core clock.

btw, thanks for the hint re: later versions. I'll try to install one now, since ATI Tray tools is kinda useless to me in this state.

thanks!

LOL I'm very surprised you are getting ATI Tray Tools to work, this post is from 'THE MAN' himself:

Summary:

"Unsupported"

Re: HD 3450 Driver recommendations pls!

ATT is reading the clocks, but it cannot modify them. Additionally, when I tick Show DDR2 Values, it messes up, and I must close the window and reopen them to see the DDR2 values.

So, its working, but broken-ly. I mainly use it for OSD/Hotkey support, and as replacement for CCC.
