Mobility Modder for Gateway
I put a new hard drive in my Gateway 450SX4 and updated to XP sp3. The original drivers make weird black snow made of short random black vertical lines on any video. Gateway hasn't updated video drivers since 2003 for Mobility Radeon M-6P. I tried the Omegas, but they didn't seem to work much better. I then tried the Mobility Modder with Catalyst 9.1 and used Driver Cleaner and that didn't seem to work very well either and didn't want to install. I backed down to Catalyst 7.1 with the modder, based on what seemed to be stable version in older posts and things seem to work OK. What I wonder about is Gatway claimed 32 mb for the video memory, the original drivers show 32 mb, but with any of the updated drivers, both Omega and modded Catalyst it shows 8 mb, and acts like at times. I'm not enough of a techie to understand the data in ATI Mobility Radeon/Proprties/Resources to understand whats going on. I also upped my Ram a while back from 256 to 512, which is the system maximum. I didn't know that when I bought the ram so I got one 512, thinking I could leave the existing 256 in place. It wouldn't even boot so I left just the 512 in there. Would it work better with two 256 even though it originally only had one?
Thanks
