Help please! - X1700, MM, 9.6 CAT, Home XP 32bit, SP3

Hello,

I'm trying to update my ASUS F3J laptop drivers for the Radeon Mobility X1700 it came with drivers date 8/26/2006(almost 3 years old!)

This is what I've done so far:

- I installed MSXML 6.0 Parser(x86 version)
- Removed my old drivers via Driver Cleaner Pro 1.5
- Installed latest ATI drivers 9.6 only till extracting point
- Modified the files uses MM, even useing the exe suggested<a href="http://www.hardwareheaven.com/driverhe...9-2-later.html" target="_blank">here</a>
- Done both modes of installing that i know of using device manager to show path of drivers, and manually gone into ATI/Support file and clicked on the ISSETUP.EXE to install the drivers

But no matter what way I go I keep getting the blue screen of death(memory dump I believe it goes very quick) once the computer restarts and then I must use last known good configuration to get where I'm at right here with no drivers installed at all.

Specs:

- Intel Core2Duo T7200 @ 2.0ghz
- 2GB of RAM

If you could please input and help, I'd greatly appreciate it.

pre-hd2000 cards are not supported by catalyst version post-9.3 anymore. drivers for these should be released quarterly (ie. 9.3 > 9.6 > 9.9 > 9.12) but 9.6 obviously is not supporting pre-hd2000 cards, so you only can stick with catalyst 9.3 - should work with MM.
