Why cannot play games in 1440*900 full screen mode?

Hi guys.
I am using a laptop with mobility HD2600. If I use the graphic driver from Acer website, everything is fine. But when I used the 9.7 version Catalyst driver (after processed by ATI Modder) from ATI website, then the 1440*900 resolution is only available in window mode for PES2009 and some other games. I cannot choose 1440*900 full screen any more.
Any clue?

is there any body can help me?
coz I changed back to the driver from Acer website, it works now. But i just want to try the latest driver to improve the performance.
