***HELP*** Underclocked mob. HD3470 Asus X59SL ***HELP***

Hello, I have a problem.
My laptop is a Asus X59SL.
It has a HD3470 (Gaming Card) Installed with 256MB vRam.
But the card is huge underclocked.

The normal clock speeds are
Core: 680MHZ
Mem: 800MHZ

My underclocked speeds are:
Core: 249MHZ ( 250MHZ )
Mem: 198MHZ ( 200MHZ )

It seems that Asus has locked the card to very low clock speeds.
Will a custom driver from you guys (driverheaven) solve the problem and UNLOCK the graphics card to it's normal speed?

Regards,

Me2@

PS: Sorry for my bad english, I'm 15 and I'm from The Netherlands.

be sure to have your laptop plugged in and the highest performance power setting active (no battery saving mode)

by the way, have you tried gaming on it yet?

Welcome to DH.

Do you get that clocks in ATI CCC , if yes it is normal as the GPU is automatically work on low speeds when Idle to safe power consuming and lower heat generation but there is an option to lock the clocks at the speeds you want in CCC , just enable Overclocking . If no , take a look at Asus tools on there website or wait for some member to help , I didn't had an experience with DH drivers .

Side note : please don't use "offenssive titles "(the Cap letters and the special characters are too much )

Re: ***HELP*** Underclocked mob. HD3470 Asus X59SL ***HELP***

Hey, thanks for the responses, I already changed every setting to maxmimum performance, and the laptop was plugged in all the time..

I've checked the speeds with GPU-Z and run a log but it never clocked up.

I think they locked it because of overheating problems...

My processor became 90 degrees which is normal for my laptop i think?
Then we made a few holes on the case were the heatsink from the CPU & the fan is located, and the average temp. is now 60degrees and the maximum temp is 68.

So my question is, is there any driver / tool / mod to "unlock" the graphics card so it would run on it's normal speeds (card is always been underclocked, it's standard in Asus X59SL-series) and overclocking it doesn't work.

Regards,

Re: ***HELP*** Underclocked mob. HD3470 Asus X59SL ***HELP***

Reading through forums it seems plenty of people have had this problem with their T400 lenovos...but they were getting speeds of 337/396 (roughly half of the proper speeds)

EnTech Taiwan | Utilities | PowerStrip I saw someone use this to UNDERclock his to 300 to try to increase battery life...could work the opposite for you hopefully

I will keep looking, and welcome to DH!

Re: ***HELP*** Underclocked mob. HD3470 Asus X59SL ***HELP***

Thanks, I'll give it a try!

PS: I've installed the Modded Mobility driver from driverheaven, and now my HD3470 changed in a HD3450, but the speeds are the same as they were,
Core: 249MHZ
Memory: 198MHZ.

Re: ***HELP*** Underclocked mob. HD3470 Asus X59SL ***HELP***

Huh.
I removed the driver with the driver cleaner tool but my HD3470 is still known as a HD3450.

PS: Core moved from 249MHZ to 251.4MHZ!
Installing official drivers and then try to tweak the graphics card with Powerstrip ;-)

Re: ***HELP*** Underclocked mob. HD3470 Asus X59SL ***HELP***

Let us know how it goes. After a quick google many people are getting various underclock speeds...Another DH user was getting 500/600 on his Asus X59SL.

Re: ***HELP*** Underclocked mob. HD3470 Asus X59SL ***HELP***

Um..

Rivatuner won't let me see clockspeeds so I can't change them.
GPU-Z sais the default clockspeeds are 500/400 and that the clockspeeds are 550/400 now.
When I go to sensors I still see 249/198MHZ.
With powerstrip I pressed Performance defaults and than apply (which are 500/400) then I went to CPU-Z sensor and the clockspeeds haven't changed..

I've changed the clockspeeds in powerstrip to 480/380 and apply but it seems that there's a lock that won't allow you to change speeds.

Maybe something in the motherboard or so?
And I found something about the bios of the graphics card but haven't found any biosses yet.
They say that you have to flash your bios if you want to force clockspeeds?

Probaly power saving. I also got it with an G105 M. They just lower the clocks when idle. Go run 3Dmark or something like that. I think they will increase

thats because when your not playing a game it sets it self for power saving at idle...

and as said earlier you can test this by adding a second monitor and running CPU-z on one and a 3D application on the other and check if the clock speeds change.

Maybe look into that BIOS flash then?

I have on my desktop GTA IV and I remember that my HD4670 on my desktop was also underclocked but I locked it with Rivatuner..

I'll install a game and check the logs from GPU-Z.. ;-)

Thanks, Me2@

Re: ***HELP*** Underclocked mob. HD3470 Asus X59SL ***HELP***

Installed GRID, ran it and it runs VERY VERY slow *medium settings*.

Speed hasn't moved up..

Is there any way to fool Rivatuner that I don't use beta drivers so that I can change clockspeeds?

Re: ***HELP*** Underclocked mob. HD3470 Asus X59SL ***HELP***

The battery saving option from ATi which is called Powerplay was the thing I looked for.
I put the power plans on high performance in windows Seven, went to advanced option and I saw an option called: Powerplay, which was already put on "Off" when I enable Powerplay the core speed drops another 100MHZ which means that the core is 149MHZ and the memory 198MHZ.

That's also the reason why the speeds didn't get up; they were on topspeed!

So what I have now is a Laptop with a locked HD3470 that runs games worse than Intel integrated garbage.......

Re: ***HELP*** Underclocked mob. HD3470 Asus X59SL ***HELP***

Update: I brought the laptop to computer shop were I bought it, they found out that the laptop was very slow with 3D applications and RMA'd it to ASUS.
(The laptop would be reset / formatted + new OS)
Asus haven't found any problems and said that the laptop meets the specs.
I can't find any specs for the type of laptop??:-S?

Soo, 2 weeks later (yesterday) I got the laptop back, so I checked if the laptop's graphics card works better now, so I powered on the laptop and I saw: Windows 7 exactly as I left it at the computer shop. (With all my icons // files // setting e.d.)

Then, when I played a game in fullscreen and let GPU-Z log a file with clockspeeds, the game was as slow as first, and when I checked the GPU-Z log, the clockspeeds hadn't changed at all.
As I can't check the clockspeeds of the exact type of the HD3470 for my exact laptop ASUS X59SL-AP249C I think I've been scammed, so I advise you to NEVER EVER BUY AN ASUS!!

BTW: Laptop price was 700,- with the most shitty graphics card in the world (slower than integrated).

Bye,

Re: ***HELP*** Underclocked mob. HD3470 Asus X59SL ***HELP***

I think its not that bad, i have x59sl from november last year
problems i had so far were on
Mass effect - pixel shader bug so you see snow over screen but than i played left4dead and found same problem but advanced graphic settings fixed it so i blame lame EAgames engine ( it was pixel range amount processing )
Pure and Dead space worked ok on mid also as Fall out 3, Devil may cry 4

but i must admit Flat out : ultimate carnage was pain and in game you mentioned - Grid , but i also had keyboard problems on Grid

when i checked few months be4 , couldn't find proper driver support, tried driver modifier for mobile graphic cards w/o success
now installed Vista and should see how is it going on DX10 ( had twiked XP sp3)
ah , and here is what i tested also few months before :
i played GearsOfWar in lan with friend who had Amd Sempron 2.4 x64+ nvidia 8500 Gt ( 256+256 as mine Radeon ), 2Gb ram
and comparing graphics, i beat him on textures while he got better filters
so expect to have problems with certain games only

try everest ( ultimate edition if you can find ) has some tests so you can trully compare overall performance)
