Thumbs Down! Windows 7, ATI 9600 & Green pixels...

Has anyone else had this problem? When i install the drivers for ATI mobility 9600/9700, there are tiny green pixels on the screen and when I put something ontop (ie: a window) they disappear but then reappear later on.. I also get this REALLY bad when watching video.

I have an alienware 766 P4 3.2Ghz, 1Gb RAM, ATI mobiliity 9600/9700 128mb vid card, 7200RPM 160 Gb HDD (name.. can't remember :P)

I've tried multiple solutions... old drivers, new drivers, mobility modder... nothing solves the issue.

When on the standard VGA drivers (default) there are no pixels, but my resolution isn't 1680x1050... its 1280x800 and is ugly :`(

Any suggestions would be welcomed!

Thanks

Re: Windows 7, ATI 9600 & Green pixels...

sounds like drivers are bad or the GPU is going bad......

i didnt even know you could install win7 on a system with a GPU that old...

i suggest cleaning out the old drivers.... then installing the windows vista drivers for your card and OS version.

Re: Windows 7, ATI 9600 & Green pixels...

hey there....thanks for the reply!

It's not that old is it? lol... I know its old but it keeps on tickin' and since it works just fine (well almost fine) I just can't find a reason to replace it!

I don't think its the GPU because it was run perfectly on WinXP Pro with the same resolution settings and such.
I've also tried to install the newest drivers... I have Aero turned off because when it's on the computer freezes and I have to restore to a previous date. I'm currently using an older driver w/ XP as it is one of the few I've found which will allow me to perform my daily functions w/o too many of these green pixels.. streaming shows however is VERY annoying.

I googled this and I don't seem to be the only person with this problem, but unfortunately everything I've tried doesn't want to work. I contacted ATI and since it's so old they won't deal with it... ugh.

Anything else I should give a try?

Cheers,

Morgii

EDIT: Forgot to add: when I try to use CCC to play around with the settings... the computer freezes... not sure why.

Re: Windows 7, ATI 9600 & Green pixels...

maybe you should stick to XP as thats the OS your system was most optimized to use.....

but as a final gasp to get this thing to work, i recommend reformatting, clearing everything out and installing one of the above drivers but do NOT install CCC and see how that goes.....

grab the 32-bit for 32-bit win7 and 64-bit for 64-bit win7.....

personally, i never really touch the settings in CCC and just go with the ones in-game...

Re: Windows 7, ATI 9600 & Green pixels...

1: The 9600 series and actually the x and x1xxx series are not supported under a windows 7 enviroment...

2: use the windows Vista Driver in win7, it's not perfect but it should work.

3: If that doesn't work, your likely running into things which are showing the weak points of the GPU which shows up as corruption.

While you may not see these clear as day in windows xp due to many reasons, doesn't say it isn't possibly happening in a less noticeable state.

The 9600 series is a dead dropped discontinued series, your lucky enough that you've gotten as far as you have.

While i've the 9550np and similare video cards floating around in some very old system, the vista drivers in win7 generally work perfectly and have produced no issues. AGP support however is a tough one may be a root issue, not necessarily the card itself.

IF i were to recommend a card, for an AGP system, i usually recommend the x1650, but it also is an unsupported product in win7, and it may not resolve your issues.

I would seriously consider looking at replacing that machine..... your hitting the absalute dead ends of it.
