X1400 - Which Catalyst version?

So I looked for new drivers at ati.amd.com.
I filled in everything for my graphics card, the ATI Mobility X1400 and it suggests, I download Catalyst 9.3.
I saw they were already up to 9.10 and looked at the compatibility and it says.
My Fujitsu Siemens Laptop with XP and X1400 are supported.
Atleast that's what I conclude right here.
Drivers & Support | GAME.AMD.COM

Then I start googling and see that my card is only supported with legacy drivers which are at 9.8.

I'm kind of confused here, which drivers are right for my laptop?

Sorry buddy there are a lot of forums to reply to recently and it took us quite a while to respond

As a rule of thumb always rely on the main site for where you bought your laptop from. Thats where you will get the most accurate information, but since I dont have your laptop make I cant really comment further, however since you appear to be on the amd main page and using that chipset rely on what they tell you instead of third party info

Re: X1400 - Which Catalyst version?

My laptop is a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Pi 1536 with a Mobility Radeon X1400.
I've previously used Omega Drivers, which I preferred to the regular ones, but they stopped making drivers so I had to switch.
Then I used the latest drivers they had back then which was Catalyst 8.7 at that time.
They worked very well and I hadn't had any problems with them.

Now I decided to update my drivers since I found that they were out of date.
Then the trouble started happening. I've almost tried every driver in town and it just won't work. Even stepping back to 8.7, which usedto work fine, doesn't work.

Now I went to my laptop manufacturers website and downloaded the massively outdated drivers (they date to 2006) there and they did work.
But of course I'm not satisfied with these outdated drivers since before I was able to use atleast Catalyst 8.7.

Now what drivers should I install? And in what way?
I've tried Driver Cleaner and working in Safe Mode, but to no succes.

Re: X1400 - Which Catalyst version?

if i were you i would stick with what works, not whats the latest. my motherboard bios are from 2007 LATEST! I had some serious problems with the old ones when I upgraded my Ram, it could just simply be that the latest drivers just suck compared to the old ones (doesn't make sense).
But that's what I'm seeing did you change your OS recently

The 9.8s should serve you fine, but you won't see any enhancement corrections, I'd only suggest updating if you're getting weird render errors that could be new software, etc.

Other then that you should be fine.

Re: X1400 - Which Catalyst version?

No, I haven't changed my OS recently.

But I guess I could give 9.8 another try.
I suppose you mean the legacy 9.8 since the regular 9.8 doesn't cards older than HD2400.

I've downloaded legacy 9.11/9.8/9.3.1
I'll deinstall my drivers with Driver Sweeper and put them on one by one beginning with the 9.3.1.
I'll be doing this in Safe Mode just to be sure.
I'll let you guys know what happens.

Oh and thanks for the help so far.
